Default 1997 30th Anniversary Camaro SLP

We are doing some research to determine the value of our 1997 Anniversary convertible SS SLP. This was very informative and a very good description of our car - down to being 1 of 6marketed in Canada - thank you! One thing I found confusing on the internet is one place said that there was only one M30 for the 1997 model. Ours has M30 RPO Code. Do you know if there is only one?

History of the 1997 30th Anniversary Camaro

1997 marked the 30th year of production of the Camaro, and Chevrolet wanted to commemorate this prestigious anniversary with a unique appearance package for the Camaro. The color pallet for the anniversary package was taken from the 1969 Camaro SS that Paced the Indianapolis 500 race of that year. An unmistakable color combo of white with hugger orange stripes and a white leather interior with houndstooth seat inserts. The interior was further embellished with 30th Anniversary logos embroidered into the front seat head rests, in the center of the rear seat back and on the front floor mats. Chevrolet offered this appearance package on the Camaro Z28 and the Camaro SS.

30th Anniversary Camaro SS

For the 1997 model year there were only 957 30th Anniversary Camaro SS’s built. Chevrolet designated the RPO code of Z4C to the 30th Anniversary Appearance Package. The 30th Anniversary Camaro SS also required the following RPO codes from Chevrolet; 1SJ (Z28 Preferred Equipment Group #2), WU9 and AG1 (6-way Power Driver's Seat) options for coupe and t-top models, and required 1SM, WU9 and AG1 for the convertibles.

The Introduction to the 1997 30th Anniversary Camaro LT4 SS

To further celebrate Camaro’s 30th Anniversary, SLP offered to its top dealerships an invitation to order what would become one of the most unique fourth generation Camaro’s ever built: A special content Camaro SS with a 330 horsepower, LT4 Grand Sport Corvette Engine.

Only 106 special 1997 Camaro SS 30th Anniversary LT4’s would be built. 100 would be for sale in the United States and 6 would be sold throughout Canada. Due to timing constraints for certification, the cars were not available for sale in California, New York or Massachusetts.

To purchase one of these special Camaro SS’s one needed to complete a SLP Sales Agreement Form and place a $5,000 deposit with their dealer. Once the deposit was received by SLP, the owner is notified of a production date. The first 50 cars were built between January and February 1997 and the second group of 50 cars was produced between March and April. Production date on HMS #5 was 3/26/1997

SLP could have installed the impressive LT4 crate engines directly into the Camaro SS as is, but they took it a step further. All 106 of the production LT4 engines were completely disassembled, balanced, blueprinted and honed with stress plates. Areas of the engine that were checked and adjusted included, the deck, line bore, bearing clearances, head surfaces and a multi angle valve job.

One in 5 engines was selected to be tested on a Superflow engine dynamometer, and if your engine was chosen, the performance sheets were included with the paperwork inside the car. My LT4 Camaro’s engine was chosen for a bench test and the dyno sheet indicated a maximum of 333 horsepower and 344 lb/ft of torque.

Every LT4 Camaro was tested on a chassis dynamometer in addition to performing a short six mile road test, the dyno results were also included with the car and a letter was sent to each purchaser to let them know this testing would be performed on their Camaro. The provided sheets with my LT4 Camaro showed an achieved 281 rear wheel horsepower and 311 lb/ft of torque.

i would imagine maybe five or ten would have been M30s. i'm sure someone here knows certainly. if not, someone on camaroz28.com can link you with the people who would have been there at SLP when it was all going down...

Your car is a true LT1 SS....green in color. You can call SLP with the VIN and get your build number.

I have a very long list of very bad things I'd do to get my hands on an Anniversary LT4 SS. What are they going for? Although, I cant imagine them coming up for sale often.

Default New Purchase!

I have recently traded my 2002 buell s3 thunderbolt for a ss Camaro 1997.
I later found out its a slp/ss called slp and gave them vin and they told me it was car #1089. I was so excited! I work at a chevy dealership in Oklahoma. I ran vin and checked rpo's and its truly and SS/SLP got stickers
in both doors and under hood. bike was worth 3750$ and now I find out this could be worth a lot more. I have fixed all little this wrong with it. and had a new paint job on it but didn't know before I painted it that it is what it is, luckly I painted it back the artic white but put the new Chevrolet pearl in it and blacked the top between back window and t tops with blue pearl. got a set of 07 Z06 wheels 18" and putting hockey sticks on it. I pinstriped the wheels red have got new style ss emblems red and and Gm emblem like on the doors of the new cars and a Lt1 badge on back.i will post pictures. so is this really 1 of 957 built?

If you go and change the paint and added other stuff does it matter if its a 1 of 957 built? Maybe I am not understanding the question.

Default 1997 camaro ss lt4-how to determine

Douglas...................this particular thread was about the LT4 30th Anniversary Camaro SS cars of which there was only 100 built. There was 957 of the LT1 cars built.

My opinion......................if you changed the paint and didn't restore it to its former appearance................you have decreased the value of the car. But it's your car and if YOU are enjoying it...............what else really matters?

Below is my 30th Anniversary which I purchased new. It has around 18,500 miles now.

I'm not quite understanding your question, as ALL 4th gen F-bodies were built IN Canada. ALL LT4 installations (swaps, actually) were performed by SLP, IN the USA.

Are you asking about a car that was built FOR "export" TO Canada? If so, I seriously doubt that one would be worth more or less than an equivalent car built FOR the USA. I believe the primary differences are that Canada mandated auto headlamps and DRLs before USA did, and more came equipped w/ engine block heaters.

My 1st 4th gen f-bod was a '94 Z28 M6 'vert that had the Canadian export RPO, it had auto headlamps and an engine block heater. It was also a GM executive-used car that was sold at auction to a dealer in NE IN who never titled it until it was sold to me in '97, so I received the original GM mfr's title. Long after I sold it, I discovered that its trans / color / interior options made it a 1 of 37.

Back from the dead.

Does anyone have a shot of the LT4 catback exhaust? Or can anyone confirm that the LT4 catback used the powerflo muffler with additional resonators/silencers in the tips? Or was that just the Hendricks cars?

Thanks!
