This is getting interesting. I wish I knew more about it, but I only know Camaros.
I don't want to confuse the issue, but I looked in my Firebird folders (not a ton of content, but some) and I believe this is one of the pace cars.

Notice how the first picture dosent have a Whelen sticker on the door and the last 2 pictures do? I would say are the 3 cars. Hopefully ours is the first picture as it does not have the Whelen decal. From what I have read 2 cars were track ready to pace and one just with the decals as a 3rd back up.

Do you know how many CEs had the Daytona decals? Because I have pics of another one, and I don't think it's one of the pace cars. I think it's just some sort of festival car.

Just because I don't want to dig it up later... the VIN on one of the cars I have pics of is 2G2FV22G922125425. It was sold at Barrett Jackson with one of those funny titles from GM's bankruptcy auction where it isn't supposed to be driven on public roads.
I don't know if it's technically one of the pace cars or not.

I would say you definitely have one of the three pace cars as they were the only ones with the enlarged stripes. Stripes were enlarged so they could be seen more easily as the car did it's pace duties. Without the Whelen decal or remnants of a stone package which was easily identified by a large white switch located in the tcs switch location, it would seem to be the backup.
Definitely a prized CETA. I'm unsure how to go about getting it documented with Pontiac being gone now, tho.
Maybe just try to get it confirmed by someone at Daytona International?

while shopping for CETAs - I learned that convertibles were used in California as parade cars. I found one at a Porsche dealer in Pennsylvania - that had "17" and "29" on the sides - assuming that was Kenseth and Harvick qualifying next to each other. As I walked up with my son and asked about it - a guy was getting ready to bring it home (there was a question of whether his wife would let him keep it). Dude was great though - he let my son (whose birthday is the 17th) sit in it and take pictures before he took it home. He kept it (maybe he's on here as a member) - I found mine in Michigan about a year later.
In 2004 - I saw one of the ones with the white circle pace car decal. Can't remember who the driver on the windshield banner was - nobody particularly noteworthy. So it seems there were several different uses for the CETAs during the season.

I have a call in at Daytona but have not heard back yet. I have heard that they do not have any records of what cars were used. Still waiting to see what the ASC # is.

Yes it was the second pace car built, it was converted by ASC on Feb 28, 2001
Where is what I've been told from my guy, but it seems something isn't adding up
there are 3 'pace' cars built in 2001 that were the Collectors Editions. They were built in Feb. 27/ 28 of 2001 and they were VINS - 100003, 100006 & 100004. The one you asked me about before was the only manual, # 100006. Numbers #100003 is an auto-convertible and #100004 is a T-Top Auto.
