Default What happened to GMMG?

I've always been a huge fan of these cars, and actually made a 5 hour trip to Bristol, Tn to see a few Dick Harrell's and talk to the owner of GMMG (Matt Murphy) every year. I haven't seen anything from them lately though and they don't update their site anymore. What's up with that?

We seriously need a "gmmg is bankrupt and if you want info come in here" thread. Theyve been bankrupt for a couple years.

Yeah I didn't see any other threads that said they were bankrupt. Maybe this one will help get the word out.

Now there are about 6 threads about where to get the gmmg style exhaust. If you have headers. I advise getting the stainless works exhaust bigger diameter and 3 power sticks instead of just 2 better sound

Could someone shed some light on who or what GMMG exactly is? Google doesn't really help me out much...

I believe the acronym is for General Motors Motorsports Group.

and their site is still up.
http://www.gmmginc.net/

Essentially they were a 3rd party performance division that modified new cars into some pretty spectacular rides and arguably created the best sounding post Y-pipe 4th gen exhaust.

Ahh thanks for the correction then. I was told that many years ago and just took it at face value.

Nope.................you're all wrong. Originally Matt had a partner and his last name was George. So........................GMMG stands for George-Murphy Motor Group.

Matt told me this several years ago so I believe this is true.

Hawksthirdgen sells the GMMG catback as well, but madhammer.com has the cheapest prices so there is really no reason to buy from anywhere else. No matter where you buy it from, its all made by Gary @ Madhammer, the other guys just mark it up.

Default GMMG Registry

Here's a link - I'm working on the GMMG Registry for ALL GMMG cars.

www.gmmgregistry.com

Please send info, photos & spread the word about the Registry.

Some GMMG trivia???? So what do you think? I'm sure there are many more neat stories. I'm aware of many other interesting facts but that is a story for another day.

Q: How did the DEI Intimidator Camaro's end up with 381hp & the other GMMG cars were 380hp?

A: Some suggested Dale Sr. wanted 1 more hp than the other cars. How about this? .......... Dale was car #3, Dale Jr. was car #8 & Steve Park (teammate) was car #1.......... that's '381'.

Matt signing DEI #54 & CETA Blacbird #4 at my house October 2009.

Q: How did the Bobby Labonte Blackbird get number #38

A: Same deal......... Bobby's # was 18 & teammate Tony Stewart (Home Depot) was #20 ............. that's #38. It's also white & Interstate Green (Bobby's colors).

What happened to GMMG?-38-spotlight.jpg

Only a great mind like Matt's could come up with something like this.

Thanks Matt for everything you have done for hobby & I hope things are well with you. Call sometime.

If anyone has anymore interesting GMMG trivia PM me. info@gmmgregistry.com

More...........

For anyone that doesn't know GMMG built very small numbers of special edition 2000-2002 Camaro's & Trans Am's. Other companies built special cars BUT in much larger numbers....SLP Firehawk's/Camaro's, Shelby Mustang's & others.

I'm putting my money on GMMG cars as a far better investment because of the smaller numbers. Why not purchase a GMMG rather than anything else with larger build numbers?

HRE #1975 & CETA Blackbird #4 are for sale.....

I personally talked to matt last year at his open house. I do know for a fact that he was dealing with a divorce and some health issues last year. There are several rumors floating around about what happened or might have happened to GMMG but I dont know the facts so I am not going to speculate or comment. I do know Matt has always went out of his way to help me every time I have had a problem and has always made me feel at home when visiting his shop. I do hope he gets his life in order so he can continue to build the awesome cars that he has provided us in the past. All we can do is pray for the man.

As far as what jim is saying about the cars, I too agree they are a good investment. Every car is unique and limited. Not to mention just plain Bad-A. I do wish people would drive them more, because you never see them. Get those things out of the garage peeps. Bring em to the LS fest next month in Bowling green, KY

We try to drive ours as much as possible. Not many people are familiar with them though. When we took our DH Camaro to a cruise in, most people didn't realize what it was. A lot of people think we did the work our selves or that it's some kind of custom car. However, we don't mind. We enjoy them and purchased them because we like them. Take one ride with the t-tops off (or top down) and row through the gears... and you'll be hooked.
