Millions? Definitely not. About ~35,000 LS1 SSs were built, which is obviously much more common than the LT1 SSs but still only a fraction of total 4th gen F-body production.

Do you mean total 4th gen production including all trim levels and engines, Pontiac + Chevrolet, or just V8 cars?

Links to complete 4th gen breakdowns in my sig.

1996: SS coupes: 2005, SS verts: 264
1997: SS coupes: 2474, SS verts: 476 (including 30ths)
1998: SS coupes: 2511, SS verts: 514
1999: SS coupes: 4027, SS verts: 802
2000: SS coupes: 7341, SS verts: 1572
2001: SS coupes: 5468, SS verts: 864
2002: SS coupes: 8338, SS verts: 2853 (including 35ths)

Indeed, the '96 & '97 MY SS production is the lowest of all 4th gen years, but not by a significant amount over '98s.
