Default Buying A WS6

I am in the market for a WS6 and came across this one in SOM that is local to me.

http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/3820724276.html

In the description it lists that it has a lifter knocking. Is this a common thing for the the LS1 and any idea on how much it would be to fix it? Thanks for any and all input!

it would just be piston slap , happens when the car is cold , if you can have them start it up when its cold listen to it and then drive it easy and let it warm up and then take a listen again . Most ls1s have piston slap issues.

That's a lot of $$ for a car with 115,000 miles on it, especially with a potential problem. Typical CL car. I don't care what color it is. BE CAREFUL!!

Too much $$ for that car with those miles on it...
$6000-$7200 is most likely what it blue books for

I emailed the guy about the lifter and this is the response I got

"I had the lifter checked at a performance shop and got a quote for a top end rebuild. It isn't a 100% guarantee that its the lifter but that's what they thought based on checks. Oil pressure is good, no leaks, runs great."

He said he is open to offers but I am clueless as to how much it would cost to fix.

Good gawd dude, move on to another car. Don't get fixated on a CL car, especially one with issues. You want a decent car for a decent price, and this car is neither apparently.

I already emailed him telling him I was going to pass because of the unknown with the engine.

If it's just lifter tick I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mine did it off the showroom floor. Might be a good negotiating point, especially if your going thinking about H/C. After I did my H/C build the noise went away. I think GM just did a poor job of setting up the valvetrains in these cars.

Smart!! You'll find a nice one. Be patient and don't be afraid to travel to find that one car you really love. One weekend of gas, fast food, and cheap motels is nothing to spend in the long run. The last two cars I purchased (not the T/A) were 500 miles away each. Worth every dime of travel expenses. Sometimes they just aren't in your area. Good luck!!
