No. A SS should be no more. My car is registered as a Z28 in Mass. It is a SS. A SS is just a additional pkg. that is added to a Z28. No faster or slower. Why should you pay more? They're killing us here as it is....Ma. insurance sucks. WJ

I would call the insurance companies in your area. Speak to the horse's head.

While I don't know for sure about CA or about Z28/SS's. I know in Maryland, I pay more for my WS6 than I would for a Formula or regular TA. Heck..it's more than the Firehawk even. The WS6 is one of the added options my insurance knows about, but the Firehawk isn't. The best way you can find out is to call your insurance...and get a quote from them. On something like this..it seems that each state and insurance company is slightly different.

You shouldn't even tell them anything like that. Tell them it's a Camaro Z28, or a Firebird Trans Am. They have the car vin. #. Either they pick up EXACTLY what it is, or they don't.....Usually--They don't....If you don't tell them, they won't know whether you have the 320 hp version, or the 345 hp version, no?

Thats what mine says also. I have never insured a z28, only an SS though. Im pretty sure that they go by factory HP rating and value so I can assume they would charge a little more even though its basically the same car.

That makes since that it would go up a little with the HP rating. I was just wondering if anyone had noticed a big difference that would make me not get an SS or WS6 instead of a z28. Thanks for everyones imput.

I wouldnt think it would be much if anything. I would just call the company that you plan on going with and ask them.

I'm 21 years old, have 2 vehicles, 1 bike, mine is only 168/month. It says Z-28/SS on my card too. Don't know about price difference, may make a little but probably not too much.

My insurance card says Firebird/Trans-AM. Allstate only knows about the Collectors Edition car and the NHRA car.

Mines a Firehawk and I pay $210 a month. That's full coverage on the 2002 Firehawk and the 2003 Silverado.

I live in Cali and have full coverage. All that my card says is Z28. My mother in law is an insurance agent and she said it makes no difference because its basically the same car. Hope this helps

In GA my card says Z28 even though it is an SS. They don't know the difference. If you're wanting to keep the insurance as cheap as possible with full coverage, inquire about putting it on as a second vehicle (some call it a recreational vehicle). That's what I did, but pay close attention to the restrictions they put on you.

Mine is listed as a Z28...I also insure it as a "pleasure-use" vehicle (under 7,000 miles/year) and my insurance company allows a winter "lay-over" period of 90 days where the car is fully covered, but you can't drive it. This works perfect for storing it for those long, snowy Western PA winters...

I think there may be a slight increase in premium, but I doubt the horsepower rating is any part of it. It the replacement value, the SS package add something like $4000 to the replacement value of the car.

Not because it's an SS vs. a Z28, but I do pay a "high performance vehicle" premium on my insurance for the SS...when I first bought the car, I received a "nasty-gram" from the insurance company stating that because of the "high horsepower and low curb weight," my vehicle was classified as high performance...and although they normally don't cover such vehicles, they would make an exception because I was a customer in good standing...with the H.P. surcharge, of course!...what a racket!
