Shoot, if I actually had the coin to afford one, then more than likely I could afford two
One to play with, and one to sit.

Not neccessarily.....................I have a friend who owns the #65 2002 Fathom Green Phase III ZL1 and he never titled the car and he isn't a GM insider. He ordered the car and purchased it through Berger Chevrolet and still has the MSO (Manufacturers Statement of Origin) in his possession. Obviously he cannot LEGALLY drive it on the street but he is comfortable with that.

I could have done the same thing too. When I paid for my car, Berger sent me the MSO before the car even was delivered to them from GMMG. I could have not ever titled mine too, but I wanted to drive it occasionally.
I kept color photocopies of my MSO so that IF I ever decided to sell the car, I would have all the documentation to go with the car.

Sean,
Thanks for the offer but the ZL1 will not ever be for sale. In fact, I already have my last will and trust written and when I die, the '02 ZL1 will automatically pass to my 24 year old son along with my '97 30th Anniversary SS convertible.

The MSO still proves ownership of the car. The dealer fills out the back of the MSO showing who purchased the car and when and the sales price.
In most states the dealer does the legwork for you by filling out the MSO and sending it in to the licensing authority for the state and then they charge you a documentation fee for this service. It doesn't have to be done that way though. When I purchase a new car, I don't allow them to charge me the doc fee. When I leave the dealership, everything goes with me. I take the MSO in and get the car titled myself.
Like I said before, with the ZL1, I could have just held onto the MSO and never titled the vehicle, but then of course, it would not have been licensed and I would have never been able to drive it legally on the street.
The guy I know that has the #65 Phase III ZL1 did not title his. Whenever he wants to drive it on the street, he has a friend who is a car dealer and just borrows one of his dealer plates to display on the car (as if he is on a test drive). Is this really legal, NO but as long as you can get away with it................

Hey Sean, hows things. Hope all is well in FLa. As life goes on things change, and if I see any GMMG cars come up for sale Ill let you know. (after jan .06)
As far as the mso goes, since alot of people that bought from Berger were out of state .Berger sends you all the paperwork and you the go to your states motor vehicle office to process the title. If you buy a new car in the same state you live in, most dealers process all the paperwork for you, which turns the mso into the title in your name. I have two Berger cars still on mso.

Wow...you just own TOO many Bergers. You trying to collect all 100 of them? Have you been to any of the Berger shows? Can't remember if I've seen a silver Berger or not. I've seen every other color, including the Johnny Benson color change car.

Wow. 95 grand and they still put that stupid big ball on the shifter. FUGLY!
I am preparing myself to be bashed unmercifully for that comment. Museum pieces are nice, but I gotta drive what I buy. The ball was the first thing to go on my car, which is far from a museum piece but friggin' blast to drive to work!
