Default Firehawk + MTI Clear Lid

I have the MTI clear lid on my 2000 Firehawk and I noticed that it is rubbing a little against the hood. I'm wondering if this is not meant to be used with this hood, and if that is the case, are there only specific ones that fit?

What kind of lid/filter are you guys running on your 'Hawks? Thanks!

Mine has zero rubbing issues. Mine's from MTI, it's about 1 year old. Perhaps the mold they use has changed (or tolerance variance) since I bought mine.

I'm a real perfectionist when it comes to fit and finish, no marks under my hood or on the lid. Don't know what to tell ya... ~Joshua

Mine is a SLP lid and it does rub but keep in mind that I have a WS6 lower box which is a little higher.

Yeah, I think I am going to try to "re-seat" the lid and see if that helps. Those things are ALWAYS a bugger to get back on! Thanks for your words gentlemen!

I'm considering getting one of those to perhaps eliminate the rubbing issue if I cannot resolve it. Anyone want to trade??

Don't forget that you can adjust the stops so the hood does not close as tight.
They are right above the headlight housings. This might give you the clearance you need. I have an MTI lid aswell with my SLP H.O. hood. I have not had a rubbing issue.

I'm just curious, what made you guys decide to ditch the stock blackwing lid and go with an aftermarket one??

I really already know this answer, but you wouldn't really notice any perf. gains, right?

Yep, specifications can be found on firehawk.org. You wouldn't notice any performance gains going with MTI's lid. It'd be just for cosmetics.

I'd try out the bump stops on the hood like what was suggested.

I noticed you have an SLP bellows... they are VERY stiff, and can bind your lid. I carefully trimmed a little off of each end, and it works like a champ. No binding, and the lid/filter are easily accessible. It's almost as if they were made a little long.

I swapped mine as might guess for.... "cosmetic" reasons.

The Blackwing was very high quality (fit/finish), just not pretty enough.
