Default bad omen?

new hawk owner, but maybe not for long.
just today (saturday), i picked up an 01 firehawk. 11 miles later, going nicely over a set of rail road tracks, the center console starts to move as if it were being hit from underneath the car. right away i think it's a u-joint, but i'm still able to drive it to a safe place a bit down the road. the banging clunking feeling is still there after i put it in neutral, but goes away. didn't want to take anymore chances to investigate further. flat bedded it back to the dealer, now i 'll have to wait till monday mourning. now i have egg on my face, since i had the wife and my young daughter with me at the time. it took me awhile to sway the wife to get it in the first place, now this happens. do i hear " i told you so " ? maybe i should get my trade back, since it has the 3 day 150 mile gm certified used car guaranty on it. oh, i forgot, it's the 6 speed trans. any similar experiences with this tragic problem? what could it be?

Tranny mount or the torque arm mount.

The torque arm has the big end bolted to the rear differential and the little end on the tail shaft of the tranny. It keeps the diff in place, but the (tranny end) mount might have come loose and let the arm slip out.

Whether it's the torque arm or the tranny mount I'd have it fixed within one hour tops in my garage.

Bad omen... No.

A bad omen is when the ac goes out, the powersteering fails, and the waterpump craps out all within one week of each other.

Even if all that crap happened owning a Firehawk is still worth it. Too bad you don't turn your own wrenches. They're easy cars to work on if you know what to do. I've never let anyone touch mine!!! Everything from gears, tranny, clutch, two differnt cams, heads, and all has been done by me and I'm no pro. Just a guy with a 100 pc tool set (few extras) and a garage.

Welcome to the club!!! ~Joshua

Only let them touch it while it's under waranty and free. Then learn to do it yourself. It's not as hard as it looks.

Make sure they replace it with the 1LE mount as thats what your car came with from SLP. You will notice a difference with a stock unit.

it's not that i can't do it, i only drove it a few miles. besides, it's been miserable here, rainy and cold. once it warms up, i'll put on the better stuff.
thanks on the heads up on the 1LE piece. i'll have to get up to speed on the little stuff , since this is my first hawk, but my third bird. ordered out a 95 formula 6 speed last time, but only had it for a year. been running with the b-body crowd for a few years, then my last, was an 04 imp ss.

thanks for the welcome, and i look forward to learning a few things here.
here's a couple of pics before i bought it.

sswagon1- Very nice lookin' Firehawk!!!

Say, if you decide to upgrade your painted rims to chrome and you're going to sell those.... please let me know. I need to find a set of painted '99+ rims to have widened and then polish 'em.

Also, call SLP (732/349/2109)with you vin number to find out you build number and then register it on www.firehawk.org

Is it an auto or M6?

Sweet looking Hawk...very similar to mine.

Definitely sounds like the problem is what the other people have mention..and it's an easy fix. 3 days after getting ours it was back in the shop for an electrical short. As soon weight was put in the backseat, you lost all your taillights.

Congrats on the car though!

car's fixed. loose torque arm. but by the way it felt and sounded, i thought for sure something was broke. i wasn't able to be there while it was up on the rack to check around under the car, but i think the left side of the y-pipe, if i'm correct, looked squished as well. i'll get a better look at it today.
i'll be replacing the trans mount and torque arm bushing sooner than later.
is the energy suspension parts the way to go? thanks for the feedback so far, scott.

The stock f-body y-pipe is 'squished' in that area. Nothing to worry about, but most people buy an aftermarket unit anway.

That part is flattened by the factory for ground clearance reasons. No worries there.
