Camaro SS authenticity question
Camaro SS authenticity question Ran across a '99 Camaro "SS" the other day. Not sure if it is a "real" SS or not. I know if I searched this entire forum I could probably find the answers, but please bear with me and enlighten me here.
It appears to be a real SS, what gives me pause is the build sticker on the door. It does not have a "WU8" code on it, but does have a "Z28". Were '99's coded originally as Z28's, then shipped to SLP for conversion? Thus never having a WU8 code?
My understanding is that a real SS should have WU8 and no Z28 on the sticker. Forgot to check my '01 SS this morning, but if memory serves me, my '01 SS only has WU8 on the RPO code list/sticker. Perhaps it's a thing that changed over the years? Help!

Yes, the WU8 code should be there along with Z28. If the door has been replaced then it might just read Z28. Is the SS spoiler there along with a factory SS hood? Make sure the hood isn't fiberglass. Also, check the rearend gear. If its an auto, it should be 3.23; if M6, 3.42. You can find out what gear it has by looking at the RPO codes-provided the door has not been replaced-along with the Z28 and WU8 codes in the door. The codes are GU5(3.23), GU6(3.42), and if it has GU2(2.73), then is a Z28. Hope this helps.
