the higher the demand, the more you can charge....its construction is very sturdy and more people want that than X lid....the higher the demand, especially with a low supply, the higher one can charge..its simple, i could break it down or get more elaborate if you wish
i have seen then in person but never owned one....it wouldnt work with mine....however, for my hawk, i would have no other lid than the one i have

The only benefit it offers is being a rare OEM part... doesn't perform any different, a lid is a lid is a lid.

Funny thing is your desire for appreciable hp/tq differences. I dyno'd my Early '02 Hawk with the stock GM lid, then put on the SLP blackwing while on the Dyno. The first 12X cars for 2002 had to have the lid shipped to them after manufacture as the lid was not released in time for them. The results were that I gained a solid 7rwhp/9rwtq from GM Lid --> SLP Blackwing lid. I still have the dyno printout. This is in line with aftermarket #'s for lids. The goal as told to me personally by Jeff Yachnin, the engineer whom designed the Firehawk package (and later engineered the new viper ), was to get the same HP as aftermarket lids/filters combo and meet GM's stringent Durability and Noise requirements. Thus from their testing The blacking was developed. Sad to day the Donaldson filters used are not able to be purchased anymore. But the desirablity of the blackwings construction is what is really sought after. Compared to aftermarket, the lid is strong as stock, but flows just as well as the aftermarket (from SLP Eng. testing in the laboratories)
I just have only 1 extra donaldson filter left

1) reputation of Donaldson being a quality company
2) its an OEM part
yes I have one......i brought mine to the NHRA K&N Supernationals in Englishtown in 2003 & 2004 and had Kurt Johsnon, Warren Johnson, Tommy Johnson Jr, Ron Capps, Larry Dixon, and Gumpy Jenkins sign it. I wanted to buy another one when they were available so that i could put the original away, but, never did and now I regret it. see the attached pic (if it worked)
