This guy has a 95 TA with the WS6 package. But another guy on the site says 95's weren't offered WS6.

If you're making reference to the WS6 ram air hood, they were not offered with the WS6 package until '96. The only ram air hoods prior to that were on Firehawks. There are some minor cosmetic differences between the '94-'95 Firehawk hood and the '96-'97 WS6 hood.

So the original WS6 was in 1978, but the hood addition was started in 1996. Is that right?

4th gen WS6 started in 96. You got some suspension upgrades, 17" wheels, hood, and intake. The hood/intake and exhaust tips were taken from the 95 Comp TA. 97 saw polished wheels and exhaust tips.

yeah as said above, 95 trans ams didn't come with ram air from the factory unless it was a silver comp t/a (less than 80 of those in 95 i believe) it's very easy to add the ram air hood/airbox off of a 96-97 WS6 to a 95 (see sig) but no 95's had an actual WS6 package.

Somone in this forum has made the claim that the original ws6 was exactly that and although you can get an auto now, it was just the packagd name carrying over.

And honestly it almost makes sense. Wheels/Suspendion have always been the main package extras on a ws6.. If im
Inaccurate , so be it im only repeating another members claim
Of what the abbreviation stands for.

sigh.....so you realize the RPO code "WS6" was first offered in 1978. there were absolutely NO 6 speeds offered or available anywhere. you can get the WS6 package with both an auto and stick, the stick being a 4 SPEED and nothing more.

WS6 doesnt stand for anything, just like Z28 doesnt stand for anything. it was simply an RPO code that happened to sound nice, so they used it. in the late second gens, the package was purely a handling upgrade. bigger swaybars, stiffer springs/shocks, 4 wheel disc brakes, and most importantly a quick ratio steering box.

i know there are alot of kids on this forum, most of which are younger then some of the cars we're driving. but they have to realize there were ALOT more f-bodies then just the 4th gens. there is a huge line of history leading up to them.

Bottom line is this... there was NO WS6 offered in 1995. If you want to verify that a car is or is not a WS6 just look for that RPO code on the sticker, either on the drivers door or glovebox. If those letters are there, then it is a WS6, if not, then it's not.
