I am in the process of buying yet another f-body, and am planning on more of a drag racer build-up this time. I just wanted to know if I would be better of building a Formula, or WS6? I have heard many times that the WS6 weights more, and if you are planning on doing any suspension mods then the WS6 package is a waste of money. Need to clear this up I want my new car within a few weeks. Not sure if it matters but i do prefer the 01-02 models for the bettter intakes, and standard lower miles. Any info is helpful.

Practically speaking a stipped down hardtop Formula or Z28 would probably be the lightest and best platform to start with given what you want to do with the car. Someone posted the weight differences sometime ago, you might be able to do a search and get the exact figures. As far as 01-02 vs 98-00 I wouldn't worry too much about that. Just go with the car in the best condition and with the best price, regardless of year. They all have the same potential to be equally fast.
Another thing to consider is that WS6 Trans Ams will almost always command higher prices than a regular Formula or Z28, so in that regard you may as well go with the least expensive car to begin with since the engine is the same.

Not bad if you can find one. I had to special order mine back in 1999 because all the dealers stocked were WS6 Trans Ams. There again though you're probably still looking at a higher price for the same drivetrain.

Sounds like you are assuming all WS6s are TAs.
I'm pretty sure the fiberglass WS6 hood is lighter than the stock (non-WS6) hood, so for a given model (TA or Formula), the one w/ WS6 option will weigh LESS, not more. Probably makes up for the difference w/ all the other body bolt-ons a T/A has that a Formula doesn't. If you are drag-racing it anyway and going to do a ton of mods (lightweight hood too), don't waste a real WS6 doing it.

Right on, weight reduction isnt a major concern of mine at this point. I am still wanting this car to be a daily driver/weekend warrior. I will just keep my eyes out for the best deal i can for right now, and see what turns up. But there is no denying that the WS6 is a way sexier looking car than the Formula......even with a ram air hood. Thanks for the input guys.

Like someone else said get the nicest car for the best price. It also depends if you like the formula or TA better. I like the formula and they are rarer and cheaper than a TA and more of a sleeper(V6 body style)

VERY TRUE. My formula didn't have the big nostrils, or the raised rear spoiler. Usually kept the stock wheels on for normal driving, and it was a great sleeper. Ran consistent 13 flat quarters all day. I won a good amount of money, just of ricers thinking it was a v6. Once they put money down, and i passed them....then they knew

2 more quick bullets for you guys. How much weight can you save giving up your power windows? Is it worth it? And last what is the weight difference of t-tops to hardtops?
