1. Performance.......it needs to be fast, too many cobras in my town
2. Driveability........fast but too stiff, ot too much cam/stall...not good if the wife needs to drive it.
3. Appearance...last because it could look like a bag of smashed a$$holes but if it's fast, I'm good with it.

Simple, question, VERY simple answer.
1. Performance
2. Performance
3. Performance
What makes it, even more important, is return for $ spent. We all make the same basic mods, then we decide, "are we really going to spend some money to make this perform?" It always comes down to cash, what can we afford, and of course, where can I get the best bang for the buck! No pun intended. And, no one wants performance, necessarily at the expense of handling.
We'd rather spend $1000 to get 50RWHP rather then $500-$600 to only get 10RWHP. But, I do see people do it all the time, i.e. catback exhausts.
If we all didn't have some relative budget to worry about, or some limiting criteria, we'd all have C5-Rs or some of the high end LS1s shown recently in Chevy High Performance. WOW, 550+ RWHP and no nitrous or supercharging!
