Default SS Hood Inserts

I just got back from my buddy's shop who happens to be a fabricator.

I'm having him look into making some hood inserts for the SS Hoods. Either out of Aluminum or Stainless Steel.

The prices will vary depending on how many people are interested. No matter what I'm going to keep the cost to a minimum without sacrificing appearance.

What does everyone think?

Should have a better idea of how they will look....maybe even pictures early next week.

I know you don't have pics yet, but what kind of arrangement will they be? Will it match a billet grille, be a mesh type grille or ? A description would be nice, and then I could say if I'm interested (prior to seeing the pics).

How about asking your fabricator to make a replacement aluminum fuel door for f-bodies????????

I keep seeing posts here, and at SLP for those, and i'm sure there's alot of $$$ to be made there

I wanted horizontal lines to begin with. However to get the cleanest, straitest, and strongest cut I might have to do a little Diagonal thing for now.

I do have visions of making some with a "laser" cutter that would have the SS or the Bowtie in the design, but that would be really costly as it would have to be outsoruced until my guy gets his "laser" machine

I'll look into the fuel doors.

Thanks,
Jon

I would buy one for sure if the price is right!!!!

And is there a way to make a chrome one? I now have the one that the stock plastic insert and its chromed by afterthoughts and man its a POS!! The damn thing is trying bronze after only 3 months! If not a billit would be cool.

And about the fuel doors heres a place that has them maybe you can get them to give you a deal?

Ok.... After much research and trial and error I have begun looking for another solution just incase this doesn't work out as well and I hoped it would.

How about a thin aluminum or plastic piece that would mate to the existing grille. I'm thinking horizontal bars, and even a Chevy logo or SS symbol can be worked into the middle.

Install would be painless, pop the old grille out, mount the insert plate to the grille, and pop the grill back into place.

Sure if you crawl up on the hood you could see a little of the old grille behind the plate, but other than that you will have a new look.

How does this idea sound? Did I mention it would probably be less expensive?

As long as it doesn't hurt flow, I would be interested in something that fits over the stock unit.

As for an insert that fits over the existing grille... I'm not too sure about that... I think I speak for alot of people when I say we'd have to see it to decide whether it looks good or not.

Good job on the SOM Monster!

Now about the SS inserts, the only probelm I see is that they are very easy to steal from someone. All you do is just take a flat head screw driver and off it goes!
The reason why I bring this up is cause I just had someone this past tuesday steal 3 sets of chrome SS emblems and my chrome bowtie on back. Thats ******* almost $200.00 I have to come up with now

Thanks!

About the theft thing....

The way I want to build it, they'd break it if they tried to pry it off...they'd have to remove the entire grille which in itself is easy to remove.

However. If the overlay was in expensive. Like $25 (just an estimate) would you worry less?
