Installed new radio now HVAC lights don't work
I installed a Kenwood KIV BT-900 in my 1999 Trans Am. Now for some reason the HVAC bulbs no longer light up. At the same time I installed the stereo I unscrewed the HVAC in order to prepare to install LEDs in place of the stock bulbs, but got no further than unscrewing the two 7mm screws that hold it in place.

I used an adapter to connect the Kenwood wiring harness to the factory wiring harness. It was easy to match up all the wires between the two harnesses except for one, a solid orange wire from the adapter. It is the only wire that does not have a duplicate on the Kenwood wiring harness. Could this wire (currently disconnected, because I don't know where to connect it too) be the problem? At first I didn't think it had anything to do with it because it was part of the stereo hookup but you mentioned a dimmer circuit, don't know if this is part of that circuit or not. If it is, which wire should I attempt to connect it too?

no thats the dimmer wire for the head unit which you don't need so I doubt thats the issue
i meant check the HVAC wires and see if one maybe came loose or something, i doubt the problem is in the stereo's wiring if you just matched color to color...that would be real weird if it was

Check the bulbs, they are probably burned out. They are small and fragile and the filaments could have broken if the panel got knocked around in your install. There are two and its hard to tell when only one is out. You may have had one gone before you even did your install.
