Default Relays

What can cause a relay to go bad and how do you know if it is the relay or not? Having an issue with either the starter or the ignition and all the fuses are good. Wondering if I did something that may have damaged the relay instead when I was messing with all the wiring.

sounds like it might be vats...is your security light blinking for a long time when you try to start the car?

If it was the Vats what would I need to do to correct this? Would this happen if the car was attempted to be started without the key? When the wires were cut there must have been a connection made somewhere as the motor turned over. The battery was disconnected but the cable flipped back and touched so there was power. Once this happened we just removed the battery completely and proceeded but now it won't turnover.

Removing the shock sensor in the rear wouldn't effect the vats would it?
