Default Dim odometer and airbag light

I' m looking for this information for a co-worker. He recently bought a 2000 IIRC Firebird. The odometer display is very dim, althought I haven' t personally seen it, so I' m not sure how dim. He just bought this car from a tote-the-note lot. He also has an airbag light on, and some mild front end damage. Both airbags are in the car, but the light stays on. So my question is, what would cause these two problems? Could it be as simple as a bad ground?

More than likey the deployment loop on the drivers side is messed up.

The airbag gets really really hot and sometimes will damage the wiring.

Are you referring to the wiring all the way to the airbag itself?
