Raced a white BMW M3 4 times last night. The thing that was neat about the races was how I could really see the way my SY 3500 gave me the edge on the jump. Any how here's the story. I was taking a break from studying and decided to just cruise around for a bit. anyways I hop onto 30 heading west and almost immediatley a set of electric blue headlights get on my rear end. I didn't think much of it at first since I was in pretty heavy traffic and there were Harley riders everywhere (it's open house at the factory this weekend.) After awhile the blue lights scoot over into the other lane and I see that it's a white M3 coupe. Cool says I, maybe we can have some fun. I had been planning on going home but quickly decide to wait this one out. We play tag for a little bit in traffic, trying to see who can pick the fastest moving traffic clogged lane. Finnally, we get to the outskirts of town next to the abandoned Caterpillar plant. I have won the fastest lane battle and am up front at the last light. The BMW is a car behind and to my left. Light changes and I signal my intentions by leaving the light a bit aggressivley. He follows, breaks through the last of the traffic and we get side by side. I don't know if he was very experienced as he let me slow us down to just under 70 before starting to go. He pulls up next to me, bounces the car a couple of times and we go. Mine drops into 2nd, the converter flashes upto around 4300 rpm, lifting the front of the car, jerking my head back and I immediately put a car, car and a half on him. From 70 to 100 he falls back to about three or four cars and then hangs there until we let off around 120 - 130 or so.We did this about three more times and never really had a chance to ring them out all the as traffic would appear on the horizon and close very quickly. After the last race he pulls up next to, turns the interior lights on and gives a big thumbs up, which I happily return. We then go our separate ways. What I really liked about this race was how I could see the advantage my high stall converter gave. Other than a y-pipe and cat back and some intake work, nothing has been done to the engine at all, so as far as I'm concerned, we were pretty much dead even on engine power. The converter gave me exactly enough kick on the downshift to jump me out into the lead and keep it throughout the race. Very cool. Anyways, I just thought it was pretty neat to be able to see just how a certain mod really does help.

 

Nice kill! A little rich kid in my town has an '02 M3 Vert, I wanna run him REALLY bad. And another just bought, or rather, had bought for him, a bright yellow '03 Cobra. I wanna run em both I'll post if I do.

 

Thanks much. I'll tell you though. those M3's are really nice cars. I think, at the upper speeds, though, it really came down to aerodynamics as neither of us was really any faster than the other. Even though he ended up a few cars back, I personally consider it to be a dead even race. If I had kept pulling away from him at any speed then I would have really considered it an *** whoopin. Still, it was a lot of fun.

 

Gotta get me one of those converters!
