Well no ****, thanks for stating the obvious. I was just curious, because I've never seen any actual documentation on any of it. I'm sure the judge decides what you get for a penalty, I was just wondering what they base it off of.

Two weeks ago I learned a HUGE lesson.
It was a Saturday and I just finished cleaning and waxing my car. It was amazingly beautiful outside, and me just getting my new tt2's I decided what the hell i'm going to go cruise around...
Well I found a nice road and smashed it.... hit 125 and let off when I saw a cop to my right... yeah never felt my heart sink that fast in my entire life...
I get pulled over... he asked me if i had an medical emergency I said no... but I was expecting to have one now.
The cop made me get out of the car and put me in the back of his.
He gave me a 45 minute talk in the car... Explained to me what kind of trouble I was in. Apparently, I would have had a $800+ ticket with my license being revoked, car impounded, time in jail, drivers ed, and community service, plus a great looking record...
He saw I had a motorcycle license too and realized that I was the motor enthusiast...
Well, i'm 17 years old and everyone makes mistakes, but I got really lucky because the guy felt sorry for me and he said "Look son, I own a F-body myself and I know their fast and all but you got to be careful, and I don't want to have to screw up your future. I clocked you at 125-126 mph.... I'm going to write you down for 70mph in a 50mph zone... but you got to promise me your not going to pull this kinda stuff anymore..."
Well, before that incident I never thought twice of how bad the punishment really was, but now I'm keeping it for the track.
It still hard to wash other loser highschool kids blow by in ricer-mobiles and you have to keep calm... its sure as hell not easy..
Sorry for long post, but I can't explain how greatful I am.. god i can't imagine what my dad would of done if he knew it was 125 and not 70....

Yes, I wont be speeding after this. I really had no clue whatsoever that any type of traffic violation other than dui/dwi could lead to jail time. It still blows my mind.

You got off easy. I know someone that was pulled over recently doing 117 on the interstate as well (yes exactly 117 too). He got 15 days in jail, restricted license for 6 months (only to school and back), 1100 fine, and 3 years probation. If he gets caught doing anything else in that 3 years he has to go to jail for 60 days and pay 2000 more.
He is 17 I think.

Some things are just best not telling your parents. If he really did learn his lesson then there is no need to put that stress on his parents if he truely isn't driving like that anymore..
OP, I feel for you man, **** happens though. Gotta look at the bright side of things though..Obviously it's hard to see at times like this, but atleast you didn't get hurt or hurt someone else going that fast. Over time this will just be a bad memory.

you got to be careful bro..one time I got pulled over for going 110mph because a car cut me off and I got pissed so I floored it and cut him back... I was going like 130mph when I noticed a cop upahead so hit the brakes and slowed down to 65mph, but I see some bright lights coming up my *** fast it was night time so I thought it was the guy that I cut off... but than the car gets next to me and its a cop signaling me to pull over.. i exit the freeway and the cop cuts me off right in the middle of traffic and does not even get off his car just rolled down his window and asked me if I knew how fast I was going.. i told him no.. he said he clocked me at 110mph, that if I knew what could happen when you go that fast..told him yes and he just told me he better not see me speeding again..but he didnt even check my license or insurance he was just sceaming from his car.. guess maybe his shift was almost over....
