me knowing what I'm doing has nothing to do with 302 < LT1, as the 302 is 225 horses at 4200 stock, and I got 194 rwhp with just synthetics and 12 degrees initial advance, and the stock 302 wants the 1-2 upshift no higher than 5400, while the LT1 is 275 horses at 5000 stock, and is perfectly happy turning 6200 with the Hypertech reprogramming. 302 is iron heads and a relatively heavy 2-piece intake manifold, while the LT1 is aliminum heads and the intake is less than half the weight of the 302's long-runner intake. Sure, a well-built 302 is > stock LT1, but that's not a fair comparison, thus I wasn't making it. It seems you were.

 

I haven't seen too many 500rwhp N/A LT1's. Even if they are out there they are going to be 383+. You could easily make a 347 500rwhp N/A while staying below 7,500rpms. I will keep the debate to the stock block because a Dart block 363 would be a nasty nasty nasty fast motor.

302>LT1. my shitbox notch 2.73/auto car with nothing more than an ORX and flows took an auto LT1 a few months back. although im surpised that the weight difference hasnt come up yet. my notch weighed a touch over 3000lbs with me in it, while an LT1 f-body weighs around 3400-3500lbs.

 

I'm waiting on the day I get my hands on a notchback Mustang. I'm going to get a fresh 5.0 and see how fast I can get it with bolt ons. Then how fast with stock E7's. Then how fast with the stock cam. Etc...etc... Should be real fun and shouldn't cost that much.

 

i just sold mine, decided to put more effort into my cobra. it wasnt much fun off the line with them highway gears in it, but a 30 roll was its bread and butter.

In the mean time Im gunna look for a 4 cylinder fox and swap a 289 in it lol. Just tryin to keep in on the cheap.

 

On the other hand I want a LS1 SS Camaro with the stock cam in it and see how fast I can get it with full bolt ons, worked heads. And then throw a 150 at it.

I've been thinking about getting a notchback. I want to put a LS6 in it though. Just to have fun with the F-Body guys. I know I'm an F-Body guy but damn that would be fun.
