WTF is wrong with 302's???
alright, well this happened a month ago, and i still can't get it out of my head. i was a stock camaro at the time... i raced my friend's 84 gt with bolt on's and we were dead even... he puts in a cam from summit. we raced and i pulled him by three cars no matter how we raced, 25/35/dig/45.... ?
The emblem on the front is what is wrong with the car. But I wouldn't think that a 84 gt with boltons would be dead even with you to begin with. If that is true then with a cam you beat him by 3 lengths I would say that the cam is installed wrong or there is some other issue causing the loss of power.

Exactly, ppl. with stangs make that mistake all the time. Put a bigger cam in a completely stock motor and it will be slower because it's not matched up to the other parts of the motor, it's just working against itself. Like said he needs a good matched pair of heads and a intake to make better power. Hell i've seen big H/C/I combo's on 302's perform crappy cause of mismatched parts.

lol... got some money you'd be willing to bet 302>lt1? i'm sure he did something wrong, the only difference to my car between the first and second race was cut off muffler, adn minor weight reduction.....
your comparing a modular 302 to a pushrod 346, you mind as well be comparing your lt1 to a vtec, its a totally different motor.
and your saying he put >$300 into his motor and you put <$750 into yours... i think its black and white.

Did you not read his post? He was comparing a pushrod 302 to a pushrod LT1. Which is a 350 BTW. And where in the hell did you see that he spent $750 on his car? He cut off his muffler and did some minor weight reduction which probly cost him nothing. But anyway LT1>302.
a 97 lt1 came with 325 rwtq. a 86 mustang only came with 200 rwhp. which if you wanna compare, the lt1 has another 125 rwhp over the mustang, while the mustang has only 40 more rwhp over an 86 honda legend. like i said this is apples to oranges, the 86 5.0 was a complete turd and was a full 11 years behind the lt1.
i forgot the 4.6 is modular, my b. however i hate to break it to you he bought a set of pacesetters, true duals, a stall, cold air, and a gear. thats easily around $750 depending on what headers and the TDs.

Sure, I'll put $180,000 on it. No less or I'm not interested.
I raced a 8x 5.0L in my SS a couple months ago. For da record i was bone stock. I beat him by train lengths. You mustang owners are probably like no **** duh. Its 325hp vs 2xxhp. My motor had a compression leak, piston rings fried in cylinder 1, three pushrods that made holes in my heads, no motor oil, and it was running @ 230 degrees. THAT mustang was ******* slow... By the way if your wondering what in the hell i was doing driving under those conditions ill tell ya. I was on my way to my garage at home and i wanted the motor to blow, but it didn't lol. Instead it got its last kill lol... Oh yeah nice kill by the way

I don't know much about the 302's but I've seen some pretty nasty ones.
And there is a member on here who had a pretty sick 331...

If I was on a budget and only wanted a 1320 beast, I would look for a fox (or drop an LSx into a light weight).

I still like how some of the ppl in here are the same one that toss around the "No replacement for displacement" speech when makin fun of Hondas, and then cant figure out why a 302ci motor makes less power than a 350ci motor.
