watch out guys z06 killer in the lurks
hey guys I saw this over at svtperformance:
Z06 races turbo SHO, suprising results
I have been waiting for this one for some time. Finally, tonight, on my way to a friends house, I see the distinctive taillights of a 5th generation Corvette. Upon closer inspection I confirm that it is indeed the vaunted Z06, all 405 glorious horses, in sculpted black as night fiberglass.
As I pass him by, I give him an indication that I am indeed eager to find out how that titanium exhaust sounds under full acceleration. I accelerate past him to allow him to get past the slower traffic in his lane, and when I get over we see two beautiful lanes of traffic free strips of asphalt before us. And what is this? A light coming up!
Unfortunately (or for me, thankfully), the light turns green before we encounter it, so we roll through. I shift down to first and see that he is ready. My heart is pounding, the adrenaline is rushing through my veins. After all this time, I finally get to see how the turbo holds up to GM's finest piece of machinery to date. At approximately 5000 rpms I slam the accelerator just as he depresses his gas pedal. The wrath and fury that is unleashed on that lonely stretch of tarmac must have been a sight to behold. 7000 rpms comes quickly, and I grasp for second gear. I am elated to not have lost any ground to the menacing Vette. And now, much to my satisfaction, I am pulling on this 5.7 liters of nastiness! I ****** third, right on a puddle of water, and get some nasty torque steer (sorry Vette guy - I stole a good foot from his lane, damn FWD). Just like that, the race is over. 30-70, SHO gains a car length, maybe 1 1/2. I was elated!
Now for the good part. The Z06 is getting on the bypass (10+ miles of 4 beautiful lanes undulating and curving to downtown). I am right behind, expecting him to get on the highway and let me pull even before we contest each other again. But he is not having it.
As soon as he clears the light and is on the on-ramp, he is gone! I quickly go to high-boost and follow. 60, 70, 80, 90, he is not getting out of it. 100, 110, 120 have to slow for a left sweeper coming up. Clear that and he is back on it. Fly through a right hander to the longest and straightest part of the thoroughfare. With both engines breathing as hard as they can, a straight line high speed contest is under way. 120, 130, I am starting to gain. 140 gaining more ground, and faster now. 150, is the Z06 still in it? He has to be, but for all it's might, the LS6 can not overcome the higher than atmospheric pressure that the turbo is providing the SHO. As the speeds climb, it becomes more apparent who the victor is in this duel. @ 160 I am passing him a decent clip, and stack a number of lengths on for good measure. But traffic is ahead, and hauling 3300 lbs of Taurus down from 160 is no easy task. I brake plenty early to sane speeds, and after we clear traffic, we play some mroe cat and mouse through some of the tighter turns.
It was a complete blast. Thank you Z06 driver, for indulging my wishes. The turbo SHO can rest now. Her hunger has been satisfied.

!LS1 11 Second Club
I actually read it over at SVT and the guy claims his mods+Turbo adds fly 225hp. Says he's putting down 390rwhp. It's possible. Strange but possible outcome then.

Whether or not this story is actually true is questionable, but I guess it's more believable then the unintelligent dribble that comes from most people.
"YO BRA, My SHO Ripped a 700hp Z06 a New A-hole..."
At least he seems to know something about cars.

he sounds like he blew the z06 driver at the end.
also i still have a real hard time believing this..maybe a c5 missing gears.
at 390hp he still would not have beaten a z06.

At 160 mph, aerodynamics aren't exactly in his favor.
I'd believe that he could beat him 30-70, but a FWD taurus doing 160? I'd have to see it to believe it!

i own a sho, and ive had no problems doing 145mph in it, i had plenty suspension mods so the car was plenty stable and smooth. The guy who worked on my sho has a Supercharged SHO, he puts over 360rwhp to the ground. My sho is more stable than my Z-28, but im not gonna mod the suspension on the Z, i like the soft ride.

I can write like that. I just wouldn't. ugh... it sounds bad enough when used for ****. sounds downright disgusting when used to describe cars.
whether it's true or not, i'm not to say... except that the vette really should have had an immense aerodynamic advantage over about 90mph or so... let alone at 160mph. i do not have a degree in fluid dynamics, but i would expect that the sho would need a LOT more of a hp advantage than it had to make up the aerodynamic difference. (i honestly do not know what the weight differential would look like between a turbo sho and a z06, but i can't imagine that it'd be much different).
i wonder how he knew it was a z06 from the back? i know they have side badges, those funky black scoops before the rear wheels, and only come in the short/steep rear window version... can you not get a normal c5 vette with the steep rear window? if he was racing a regular c5 vette i might believe him more readily than a z06... and even if it definatly was a z06, i know of no way of distinguishing a 405hp z06 (which the author was apparently sure it was) from the original 385hp z06.
my personal opinion, is this is likely the work of someone who knows a lot about cars, with a bias towards the sho, posting a bit of creative writing homework.

i love how he refers to it as somthing short of the holy grail its self!! the "GM's finest piece of machinery to date" was kinda funny. i just hate how gm kills any line that looks like its going to compeet with the vette.
are you guys shure this is a kill story or his turm paper for english class?

C5 with a Z06 badge, plain and simple.
The Vette would have a HUGE advantage up top. Just look at the fact it takes a 400rwhp f-bod to beat a 360rwhp vette. F-bod is maybe 100-200lbs heavier, but has better aerodynamics.
Personally I think this story is feasible, but not likely.

I don't know about this. I raced a ZO6 with a BAD driver and the ******* top end on those cars is amazing for a stock car. I must have had a good 5 cars on him at the 1/8th mark and he reeled me in so ******* fast from there to the traps I was stunned/pissed.
Timeslip says he ran :13.34@112.52.(.999RT-2.26 60') I had him by more than .3 in the 8th and he beat me.I ran: 13.54@102.
Figuring a stock Z06 is making about 370-380 at the wheels and has a cd of .30-.31 and the taurus is making near same power with a cd around .42. I call BS.
Besides that FWD Taururs would look like a porpoise at those speeds if it was under acceleration making it's aeros even worse.

yeah that's what i thought. every coupe i remember seeing has been a z06 tho, so i wasn't sure.
but it reinforces my belief that there was no way that this sho driver knew it was a 405hp z06 solely from the rear end, especially at night.

and only way you would know that is was a 405hp version, is by looking at the HP number on the badge of the car. unless i have not noticed a change from the first year zo6 to the current model
