Default 2001 mustang gt vs 01 z28

i got a race on my way home from work today. The guy was cool about everything. We ran from 70mph both times, i let him take the hit and had prob 5-6 cars by 110 (end of 3rd). He seemed suprised by me pulling away. Im not sure on the exact year but it was the same body style as a 2001. gave him a thumbs up after and recieved one as well. i was suprised and figured it would be closer seeing as i only have a lid/catback/cutout for mods. I raced another mustang gt of the same bodystyle and could only pull 1-2 cars in a similiar race. is this typical? thanks

yup 110 is somewhere around 6000 i believe in third. i think my car runs pretty good. so far the other 2 z28/ss i have raced i beat. 1 had full exhaust and 1 was same mods as mine i believe but they were both autos. those races were from about 20-30mph up to 100mph and i had probably about 2-3 cars on them atleast. I have a check engine light on now though because of my clutch sensor need to fix it. thanks for the comments

Good kill. It's possible that the last one was a 5 speed and was already in the proper gear, and this one was an auto that had to downshift itself. That auto downshift is like giving the other car a 1-2 car headstart depending on the car.

one could have had non pi heads and the other pi heads...lot of factors...but you won so good kill and yes its typical to beat any near stock 99-04 GT with your mods

Not sure if anyone has ever swapped non PI heads onto a PI motor...if they have I can't see what the reasoning would be.

im pretty sure this mustang i just raced was a stock or exhaust only 5sp. The other mustang was very close like 1-2 cars up to 120mph and im guessing he was running a 75 shot or so. thanks!

I thought they were both modded about the same, but if you're not sure on the mods then mods will most likely make up the difference between the two.

FYI - 99-04 are all PI.

(96-98 are non-pi)

Did you raise your rev limiter? Factory is 6K and 3rd tops at 103mph in stock form.

Starts at 6K?? I have 50+ passes with many rev limiter hits trying to shift at the 6K mark... sorry that doesn't add up. The GTO LS1 redline was 6300rpm.. otherwise your tach is either screwed up or you have some kind of tune done done.
