Default Ran my first cobra today

I ran my first 03 cobra today and actually won I was alittle surprised.I`ve heard storys about those things being pretty quick with very few mods. Ran him from a 20mph roll up to 100mph. Right away in the begining i pulled about a car length on him and slowly pulled away all the way up to 100. I had about two cars on him when I let off. Needless to say I was pumped We pulled off at the same exit and I talked to him at the light for a minute he said it was a 03 cobra with headers, Exhaust and intake work. The thing was loud as hell so i think he was running straight pipes, but i had my cut out open so mine wasnt any quieter. What do you think that cobra was pushing for power with his mods? About 400?

Well, headers = just about zero hp on '03 Cobras so count that as $800 down the tubes. The car is probably making just under 400rwhp if it's tuned properly. It also weighs a lot more than your car so that's a factor. On F1's it should run around 12.8 @ 111mph or so. That's about the norm.

Now to your car...

You're making 420rwhp with a turbo and forged internals and you barely edged out a lightly modded '03 Cobra? What gives? You should be running DEEP 11's IMO.

I`m only running 6psi now 380rwhp 440rwtq. Only run the 8-9psi(420hp) when i`m planning on racing. but your right the car has never performed to my expectations with the mods i have, and nobody can figure out why.

That is quite strange. You have a new forged internals motor AND a turbo, but yet your dynoing at the same numbers my buddy put down with only a 125 shot of nitrous on a stock motor. Seems like something is wrong. Who tuned your car's computer?

Nice Kill

It depends on what kind of intake mods he has also. A full exhaust 03 Cobra with a good tune and cold air intake will put down in the 420whp area. I had a buddy who put down 433whp on the following mods, then 462 on a pulley swap. His car ran 11.6's @ 120

He also probably weight alot more than you, most cobra's in street trim with driver will weigh in around 3800lbs or so.

Either way nice kill, your car must run good.

hey broke7, just wondering what your stock times were. a guy just bought an 03 cobra and he said his car ran like 93-94 mph in the 1/8. does that sound right? he wants to run me but he just spent 4500.00 on a kennybell and other mods but says he hasnt put them on yet.(yea right) thanks

Don't use broke7's times as the norm. He's got crazy driving skills.

Stock heads and forged internals.

Thats why you're not performing up to par. You're blowin thru a straw.

BTW: Nice kill.

Actually 6 psi on an essentially stock bottom end is about the same as a 125 pill, so he is right on. Just because he has forged internals means nothing as far as making more power than stock.

I have run a pro-charged ws-6 with about 10psi and whipped him when all I had was H/C/I setup, no stroker or NOS, about four years ago. Yes, it was an LS-1.

I agree that it should run a little better, but it is right on with what I have seen them do with boost.

You should see the factory exhaust manifolds on '03 Cobras too. They look so restrictive. Yet dyno test after dyno test (along with passes at the track) show they yield very little hp. Even my buddy's Kenne Belle '03 Cobra with 660rwhp only picked up 10rwhp with headers. The only real restriction are the mufflers themselves. An aftermarket x-pipe will yield around 10rwhp as well.

Thanks guys! Norris in orlando here tuned it. the forged pistons don`t really help any since i`m still 10:1 compression just alot stronger against detonation.

I got a set of lq9 6.0 heads in my garage waiting on the cometic gaskets.

wow, a turbo'd LS1 putting down 380rwhp ... uhhhh....

Btw, he's right about the heads ... what are you thinking keeping the stock heads? Also I am assuming this car doesn't have a cam either, considering it has stock heads still. And no headers ... gee I wonder what the problem could possibly be?

I think you're off to a good start, but just need some stuff to push that power up. As it was said before the forged internals aren't getting you power, so basically the only power mod you have is the turbo.... which is giving you an extra 80-100 rwhp, seems right on par.

Get a good set of heads, a cam with a slightly larger exhaust duration/lift (224-227 or 220-224), and some upgraded fuel crap (if you havent already) ... Strap them on and I feel confident you should be able to get that badboy in the 500-550 range easy.

Good luck/kill
