my 99ss vs. brothers 99Z28
I have a 1999 SS bone stock my brother has a 1999 Z28 with a catback exhaust and k&n filter. First time we raced was from a 25mph roll he honked as soon as he honked he pulled maybe a nose on me and we stayed that way untill we got to around 100mph. Second time we raced was from a 55mph roll i honked and pulled about half a car on him and stayed that way untill we had to slow down. We havent raced from a dig yet but we have a place around were i live where people race and its right around 1/4 mile we rode with each other and timed each other with a stop watch which i know wont be exactly right but i ran a 13.1 and he ran a 13.7 so i think are cars are pretty well equal. Both cars are autos as well.
The same time we raced there was a 1995 mustang gt with longtubes o/r x-pipe and 4.10's we both pulled on him pretty good so we didnt pay much attention to him we was trying to settle the brotherly rivalry.

i know it wasnt a great kill but a wins a win. And i figured since mine and my brothers car have the same engine but he has the catback and k&n he would beat me. I dont know why he doesnt but im glad he doesnt cause i wouldnt ever hear the end of it.

well stock vs stock an SS has 15 more HP i think so with the catback and K&N you guys should be pretty close to even... get a stall an gears then youll smoke your bro from a dig (with good tires lol) Goog Kill

To the OP, what gears does your brother have? you should have the 3.23 being that it's an SS. He may have the 2.73's which can make a small difference.

Good runs! The K&N is probably worth about 2 hp and the catback is probably only good for 5 or so with no other mods, so the cars are more than likely even (or close enough that it doesn't matter) power-wise. A lid will most likely gain more than the other two mods, so whoever gets that will probably have the advantage for very little $$.

The SS should be heavier with wider wheels and tires (unsprung weight too). And overall gearing perhaps a little taller due to the 17s vs. the stock 16s.
When people say the hp is even is that from track results or dyno results or both?

I've seen them tested both ways and there doesn't seem to be any real world difference. You might get an SS that beats a particular Z28 one day and then the next day with two other cars the Z28 will come on top.

There should be a mandatory box you have to click when joining this forum:
Please check here ___ if you understand all LS1s produce aproximately the same flywheel HP regardless of the factory ratings for the car in which said LS1 was originally installed as this was a marketing ploy by GM to justify higher prices for SS, WS6, and Corvette models.

The SS badge alone adds 50 hp over the Z28 badge, thats why people don't like to see SS badges on the Z28 cause it add's all the extra Horsepower...
And I posted this comment before on a diff thread but I litterally had a guy who sells Sports Cars at his little shop "mostly Fbodys and Vettes is what this guy sells" but he actually told me my Camaro 2002 Z28 was only getting 245 hp to the wheels but his 2000 SS Camaro got 345.........go figure that one out..... OH ya, both bone stock, except mines running NGK's and Synth RP OIL.
