I know im going to get flamed for having a Ford here so hiyah lol. Anyways, i have a 99 Cobra with an On3performance T70 turbo, 4.10s, 60# injectors, Steeda UDPs, 310lph fuel pump that made 382rwhp on a base tune. I raced this guy with an 02 auto trans am a long time ago and would beat him by about 3 cars. Then he called me out saying that he is soooo ready for me. I asked him what he had done and he said just drag radials. So we went on a 40 roll and he got me by about 5-6 cars easy. He claimed no nitrous so whatever.

After installing my turbo and taking it to the dyno for a tune (couldnt finish it due to an exploding belt) we raced. I have a video in case anyone is interested btw. Anyways, he would want 20-30mph rolls and with 4.10s its hard to get traction so he would be in front while i spun. Anyways, once we did a 40 roll i had traction and got him by about 1-1 1/2 cars. I questioned his mods and said he only had a couple of bolt ons and that was it. He also said that his car was gods gift to earth and whatnot but whatever.

So my question is, what happened? I seriously doubt he is telling me the whole truth. Im not trying to start anything here just some serious opinions with facts if its possible. Thanks.

 

Sup Ortiz, good to see more 3.8 members here (I'm GSRGuy94) . If he was full bolt-ons, he would be in the 350-360rwhp range, so it'd definitely feasible... but he could be bs'ing you.

 

shouldnt you be making more power? that would partly explain this outcome.

 

Whats up man, good seeing that im not alone here . Anyways, he only has a lid, headers and a tune with an auto.

I should but we couldnt finish the dyno tune because my belt tore into pieces. After i came back for a retune, the tuner looked like he didnt care and after my car was done, at wot the a/f was at 18:1 . I demanded a refund and got my base tune back.

Once you get it tuned, you should definitely pull him more than that. Something is definitely up with your tune.

 

I understand and im already taking care of it but i still dont see how i used to beat him with the same mods he had and me n/a. Within a couple of days he called me out to go race and he put about 5-6 cars on me. Let me see if i can find that video somewhere in my brothers account.

Thats what i was thinking. Also, my car dynoed 382 when it was 103* and 29% humidity so maybe that accounts for some of the loss

 

God you need a better camera!

 

How many lbs you running. You should be making 450+ no problem on 8+ psi. I made 452 on 8psi in my 3v with that kit. Maybe try a different tuner since he sucked so bad. Or maybe you have a boost leak somewhere.

 

Don't worry about what that guy had, fix your **** properly, get those A/F #'s down rock solid, tire you car to hold that newfound power, then run again. If he beats you again, then he is faster. If he's hiding nitrous or had his heads/intake ported or whatever, it doesnt matter. Win is a Win: if he chooses to lie about his mods than thats his business: just make sure you don't call him out on it until you know FOR SURE your **** is running right!

Isn't losing the whole reason for further mods??? I know if a friend of mine in a '99 bolton Cobra beat me N/A I would have to mod up to erase that embarassment! lol And I might even be willing to lie about the mods for a week or so just to make him sweat it out.

 

You're right, im not going to go any further with this guy because im not going to go anywhere. I still dont see how he could have gotten me by 5-6+ cars overnight but its ok. I know how to lose and know how to shake hands aftewards. I still feel something was up when he smacked his teeth in with a pissed off look after i told him i wasnt running nitrous. That was a red flag for me that he wasnt satisfied with the outcome.

Either way, i dont plan on racing people who get pissed off for losing. Only reason i made this thread was because me and a couple of other LSx owners felt something was up. I even told him that out of all the LS1 owners i've raced his car seemed to be the only one that seemed to be making way more power than any other bolt on ls1 i've seen. His response was, "Im just a better driver (Auto) and my car was touched by the hands of god" Not even joking that was his response.

I rahter just let it go and get my car tuned right but i dont plan on racing him anymore. I dont want to have to deal with him being a douche anymore.

There is something wrong with your car. A pushrod 5.0 can make more rwhp then that with stock heads/cam and a turbo. Hopefully its just the shitty tune.

Yeah its probably the tune because the a/f is all over the place and not rock solid. My tuner tried to tune it again and ended up almost killing my engine.

 

Find a different tuner.
