370z vs GTO vs Regal vs Genesis
#22
The big battle cry for those 370Z's seems to be that "they run right with a stock LS1." There are some LS1 fbodies that run 13.8, no matter how much some people want to deny it. I'm just saying.

And there are some ls1 fbodies that run bottom 13s and a few 370z have run bottom 13s. Does that mean they all run that? Certainly not! But there is nothing about fbodies in these posts so let's not go there. To be honest I'm just surpised the Genesis hung so well. I knew the GTO would put a good number of cars on the Z and I've heard his Regal is a strong running car. I'm just asking because I've seen a few times from Genesis owners and wasn't all that impressed.
On a side note, I'm not trying to say the fbody is a slower car I'm just mildly interested in the Genesis.

I'm just saying that because the magazine dragstrip tests aren't showing the expected results in a roll race on the street doesn't necessarily mean that something is off

Listen I'm not doubting anything...if ju1ce said it happened then it really happened but a Genesis hanging with a 370z? Tell anyone who has tracked their Z and they'll be scratching their heads too. And to be honest there's a difference if we were comparing times between a Z and a Genesis that are 6 months apart but... we're talking about a noticeably heavier car that's down on some power and hanging. And yeah I am saying the Z is faster than a Genesis.

1/4 times and street racing encounters should only be loosely compared. A lot of those guys who run the quickest times for 'stock' are prepping the car for the track. IE; lowering tire pressure, removing weight, running the tank extra low, icing down before runs, etc...
Wanna know what your car "really" runs? Roll out in full street trim from the highway to the tree.

Lol the Z has great brakes...the issue is brake cooling. The way they designed the car makes it difficult for the brakes to cool off. Stillen claims to have designed some amazing unprecedented thing to help with cooling the brakes but hasn't released much information after that.
But yeah anything can happen on the street.

Taken from the Stillen website. It's part of the description of their front fascia they developed for the 370z:

For whatever reason, the 370Zs front calipers are in the front of the rotor, rather than the rear like almost every other modern high performance car. I find that very odd.

I figured caliper placement may have something to do with cooling, proper air flow, and probably weight distribution? Like you said look at ANY high performance car and the front calipers are in the exact same position for all the ones I've paid attention to. Who knows why the Z has them placed there?

I've got to post in here because for the last two nights, I've had run ins on my way to work. Same place, same pace. I work 3rd shift and have to cross a 4 lane bridge every night before I make it to the job. Sunday night I ran into a Regal GS and pulled about 2 cars from 20-80. Monday night I pulled a 370Z much much worse from a similar roll.
I've got no clue what's done to either but I'll probably find the GS lurking somewhere as I see it from time to time. It definitely faired better than the Z which surprised me. The fucked up thing is that I can't give my car more than around 80% from a roll or the Check Engine light will flash shift solinoid codes and acceleration will cease to be. From a dig it just pegs the limiter. (no tune after Yank 3500)
It's been awhile since I've had some action around here so it's nice to rack a couple up. I haven't been to the track since my gears and stall, but I'd expect mid 12s on street tires and bottom bottom 12s on radials with a decent hook. Maybe 11.9999999999s at Atco with mineshaft air, a tailwind and a miracle.
