Control the RPMs yourself? People who know how to drive can actually get better times out of tap shifting autos than letting the computer do it.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to not know the difference between a G35/37 and a 350/370z.

Lots of dumb people around... there are tales on this site of people saying "nice Corvette!" when they drive a Firebird, or "nice Mustang!" when they have a Camaro. It happens.

It's funny you should mention it. i ran into a blue ls1 ws6 6speed with at least a catback and eagle f1 tires. Don't know if he had other mods as those were the ones I could spot, but I go to pass the guy in the 3'er and he stays in a low gear and punches it as i pass. I hit it right after him and I put about 2 car lengths on him at about 65ish when we start to come up to traffic. As traffic begins to open up again I get next to him and he wouldn't look over. I guess he didn't want his ol lady make fun of him because he got passed by a 4 door. Now to take on my car would be interesting, but seeing what visual mods he had I would think he would have also had some headers and a lid. Oh, also had a SLP license plate holder so maybe more stuff.

So u r saying u can trap 112 plus in your BMW hard to believe

Not every 6spd LS1 traps 110mph

On some automatics the response from the "tap", the actual shift and visual reading of the tach don't match up so letting the car shift itself is optimal in quite a few cases. SRT-8 is one, possibly the CTS-V. Supposedly the IS-F is an exception. Depends on the car.

Where did I say I trapped at 112? I did run a 12.85 with a tune and intake, but I think it was only at 108. Got to find the slip. You wouldn't be bench racing now would you? Thats cute for you to bench race. It was what it was. The only mods the guy had that I could see were the eagle f1's and catback that could have been a LM2 as it was loud as hell. Louder than my lth/catback setup for sure.

It's best to shift an auto 335i at about 500rpm below redline as boost tapers at redline. It's been proven to be more beneficial at that track than letting the car shift itself so I backup what you are saying that it all depends on the car.

That's an interesting data point.

Can the redline be LOWERED so that if left in "auto" mode it will always shift at the optimal point?

Not automatically, you have to tap shift it at that rpm. Here is an article one guy wrote up about shift points.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9862

Cliff notes, car redlines at 7k. This is specific to the 6mt gear ratios, not necessarily auto's, but it's the same idea.
1-2...7k
2-3...6800
3-4...6600
4-5...6200
5-6...6k
