Default Mild Bolt-On 1994 Z28 vs Bolt-On/Cam 1990 5.0 **CRAPPY VIDEO**

The other night my friend was looking for a good race for his 1990 Mustang LX. The car is an auto with bolt-ons, a mild cam, mild stall, 4.30 gears, and Nittos. The car went 13.8 @ 99 mph, but ran out of gear just before the end.

I called up my brother to see if he was game and he jumped at the chance, bringing out his 1994 Camaro Z28. His car is also an auto with a CAI, UD pulley, LS1 driveshaft, 3.42 gears, Magnaflow catback, electric water pump, and Nittos. He runs 13.6 @ 100 mph, but hasn't run it since the water pump.

Based on the track numbers it seemed like a good matchup to me. My brother's car usually hooks great on the street, but the past couple weeks has been giving him problems, spinning badly. They went out with PSM and lined up for a marked 1/4 mile run from a dig. I wasn't there, but the general consensus is that the Mustang hooked awesome, my brother spun, and the Mustang took an easy 3 car length win. They tried to line up up again, but traffic never cooperated and they aborted.

We figure the Nittos are just shot with over 14K on them, so last night I told my brother to swap my Mickey Thompson drag radials onto it and I'd set up a rematch. Both cars were having minor issues, but they lined them up anyway

Here's the video of the rematch (I appologize for the dark video, and for missing the honks, but you can see the results.) The video starts right off with the race.

Cliff notes, they launched out even and stay that way until 3rd gear, where the Mustang creeps out, putting it's rear at the LT1's door, until it runs out of gear at around 100 mph. The Camaro had a passenger.

It was a great race and a really good matchup, with both cars hooking great and running neck and neck.

They tried to get another run in, but the harmonic balancer on the Mustang let go and the LT1 started breaking up. There will definitely be a rematch once both cars are 100% again.

Nice race. I knew if they both hooked it would be close. Take the passenger out of the LT1 and he probably would have inched out the win since the Mustang runs out of gear.

Damn cold weather...

Why use those gears if u run out around 100 - does he plan on going bigger or ever enjoying some rolls? lol

Yeah, it was a great race! He's planning on swapping to some 3.73's because he's got plans for more power. The gears he has would be good for his current setup if he bumped the limiter up from stock. He will screw around from a low roll for fun, but he's definitely a dig guy.

Haha, there were way too many warnings about the crappy video and me missing the honks for you to be complaining about it

Sounds like the Mustang will be fixed soon. Just gotta get the LT1 running 100% and then we'll rematch them.

Once again, the title should have given you enough warning

A couple reasons I'm selling it. The first one being that I don't have room for it at my apartment. I've been keeping either my Z28 or my G8 at my parents, but I can't do that forever and need to downsize by one.

Also, I've been really wanting to spend some good money on the Z28 and get some money in the bank and between the loan, the taxes, the insurance, etc for the G8, I'm not able to comfortably do that.

On top of that, if I did keep it then I'm 100% positive that it's just a matter of time before I start modding it and it will take that much longer to get anything done.

Basically, it all comes down to me wanting to be more comfortable financially and concentrate all my effort towards tha Camaro. I pretty much bought the G8 so that I'd have a fun car if the Z28 broke, but since I have the G8 I've put zero effort into fixing the Z28. If I only had one then it would be fixed within a week of breaking it.

I really love the car and would absolutely love to hang on to it, but since I've decided to sell it I feel like a weight has been lifted.

No it wasn't the video, like said just the cars were so slow. I expected a fender lifting up or exhaust getting louder. IDK..

You've been hanging around fast cars too long

The LT1 is really quiet, with it's only exhaust mod being a Magnaflow catback. Should be getting headers over the winter, which will give it a bit more bark (and hopefully some bite to match).
