Default WS6 vs SL600

So... I'm cruising home from a friends house minding my own business when along side pulls a black sl600. Young guy with female friend sitting shotgun rolling drop top, probably in daddy's ride. He passes me up and slows down several times and then catchs my attension when he throws out a thumbs down. As we match speed I simply point out to the conviently placed stop sign uphead. He smiles and adjusts his seating posture, It's on! I rev to about 2000rpm wait for him to take the hit. Put about two car lenths on the guy all the way up to about 90mph where we had to let off due to traffic. As he catches up and pulls up to my side, I roll down my passenger window and clown the guy by throwing him a huge thumbs down laughting my *** off, not only because his girl is butt ugly, but by the surprised look on his face. Rack one up for the WS6

There's no way a mild f-body is giving up the hit to an SL600 reeling him in, and putting 2 cars by 90mph unless it was a 90s model, or a botched run by the SL. Even if he didn't use sport mode (slight change in power IIRC) he would still pull you...badly.

I know you have a stall and DRs, but the only way this could happen is if you jumped out immediately because the SL driver didn't have a clue what he was doing.

Those cars are twin turbo v12s and making 500hp and 600tq, and running high 11s @ 120+ bone stock to the tire.

Also, 40K mile SL600s can be had for about 35k, so it might not have been daddy's ride. They depreciate from 120K to 35K in 5 years and 40K miles, a bargain if you can afford the maintenance. Tune only they can do almost 700wtq...and are 4000lb ZR1 killers with bolt ons.

05 SL600
493 hp @ 5.000 rpm/590 lb.-ft. @ 1,800-3,500 rpm
over on the SL600 Site they are only putting down 420-440 wrhp and 510-530 wrtq
they are 4,200-4,500lbs.

its the street anything could happen.

That's what it comes down to.

I'm not calling the OP a liar, just saying that there are other factors at play (probably a moron in the SL) because this result wouldn't happen on a clean run.

All the TQ does a good job in hiding the weight. 120+ traps don't lie, regardless of dyno numbers.

Nothing like a tune and tires to run 11.1 @ 125+.

Last time I was at the track I raced a stock AMG SL65 multiple times and he was consistently in the high 11 to low 12 range at around 120-121 mph. That car is rated 604/738, but is apparently only marginally faster than the SL600, even with the extra 111 hp and 148 tq. I have no idea why unless the weight is significantly different.

2 words: tire fryer. That massive torque isn't letting something on street tires go anywhere.

actually their issue is less tire frying and more their traction control and on board computers are so crazy they actually hurt the cars on the street. also they are heavy as ****. i have raped a couple renntech cars and learned this while watching em in my mirror

They only seem to trap about 2-3 mph higher also, which sucks ***** for the extra power they make.

LOL, ZR1 killers....with ZR1s now running 10.6x stock on DRs, I think not!

I meant it more in terms of trap speed.

A stock stall, narrow tire 4000+lb Benz isn't going to 60ft like a ZR1, but from a roll it could be a close match.

Umm, heads/cam nitrous Fbody is gonna RAPE nearly any 4200+lb SL anyfrigginthing no matter what tuner has its logo on the tail.

530-550 crank horsepower 3400lb stalled Fbody is gonna lay wood to just about any SL every made. Throw in a 150 shot and a Fbody that can hook, and it's gonna get embarrassing quick for any tuner Merc SL. Did you guys even read his sig?

forged 347, heads/cam, full suspension, th400, 9 inch, 325's, nitrous, daily driver.

My car has a pretty weak heads/cam setup and on motor the SL65 I raced was creeping up top. Once I hit it with a 100 shot though it became a one sided race and the owner was like "what the hell just happened?" I would have liked to run him on the street from a roll and see how that might change things.
