Default dmax vs c5

sorry it's not too exciting, but still had to share

on the way to work this morning I caught a red light and a c5 pulled up next to me. light turned green, we both left in a somewhat normal fashion and then at about 15 mph he nails it. I kinda thought it was gonna happen so I was ready for it and went with him. we were dead even (and I was slowly pulling) up to 65mph and then had to shut them down due to traffic coming up. I think he was surprised to see me right next to him after that little run. really nice thing was that my truck wasn't even fully warmed up so it wasn't running at 100% (the way the tuning is setup with EFI as a safety net)

tie goes to the heavier vehicle

sorry, no vids. just wanted to share a little fun.

a good friend of mine has a c5 that is tuned/headers and we will line them up fairly soon. we WILL get vids of that

Good run, funny for a huge *** truck to keep up with a slim sports car with a v8.
Sounds like I got my work cut out for me.

Your truck at that power level, running in 2wd like it is in a random street encounter, would run what at the track? low 13's at 101mph maybe? Always wondering just how much the 4x4 launching helps the diesels: I know they die off hard on the top end due to aeros and lack of topend power.

Nice results BTW! Did you blow a little black smoke beforehand to incite him to run?

Most of the ones i see around here with similar mods run low 13's @ 99-102. After the 8th they fall on there face.

Hey OP, are you willing to do some dig runs or low rolls?

not sure yet, but my tuner said it "should" be a solid high 12 truck with a slight possibility of cracking mid 12s. the 4wd launch helps tons!! if I leave with a boosted launch in 2wd, I'll just melt the rear tires off. good 60ft times are typically in the 1.7-1.8 range if I remember correctly. and funny enough, mine certainly does not die off at the topend. the EGTs actually limit me more. it'll pull like a freight train to 120mph and then EGTs become a serious concern. mine definitely does not fall on it's face after the 1/8th. I'm hoping to find out for sure what it'll officially run this summer. if I break into the 12s I'll be very happy (which it should)

thanks! no black smoke needed (my tune is fairly clean though)

Yes, just had heard stories of launching dmax being a bit too harsh on the drivetrain. If you are comfortable going from a dig and using 4x4 then by all means do so.

I can try both. I feel fairly comfortable launching in 4wd, just not with tons of boost since it's my DD still gotta drive it to work and the s10 isn't exactly street legal

nice run.
on a side not how fast in the 1/4 mile would a mid 2000s cummins long bed crew cab run with intake/dp/tune? those are pretty much the mods every1 does around here and they talk so much crap about how fast they are, trying to see if they are even worth my gas

I don't know the cummins as well, but a good guess would be that I'd be surprised if they break into the 13s. it usually takes sticks, turbo and a couple other things to get them into the 12s or better. they are bolt-on type motors as opposed to the "tuning" we can do with the d-max

probably the easiest thing for you to do is ask if they have a built trans. if they don't, then it's not worth your time cuz the stock one won't hold much power

Good run! Those Diesels are cool, I just can't stand the whole black smoke thing that seems to give the owners such a hard on.

thanks. I agree. I don't like the smoke thing either. we tried to keep mine as clean as possible. I could actually run a fair amount more HP with the mods I have, but I would end up blacking out the street when going WOT. don't want that. next step is a larger turbo to support more HP, keep it cleaner and lower EGTs
