So is meth used often for these turbo Balts? Meth is huge in the 335i world right now and wondered if it's widely used on the LNF.

Lots of people are starting to run it. For 2 reasons mainly - power gains and preventative maintnence.

The problem with direct injection is the back of the intake valves never see any fuel to clean off deposits. Depending on the car and how much oil is drawn into the intake, some get deposits so bad that the valves won't even close all the way to seal.

All direct injection engines will eventually have this problem, boosted ones more than others.

Running water/meth injection has shown to help reduce the problem and with the addition of a good catch can setup, completely eliminate it.

This is the way to go:

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/suppo...h-port-256614/

I bought that for myself and as far as meth injection kits go, they are pretty much just universal, so there isn't one specific for a Cobalt. You just need to decide how big of a tank you want in the trunk and how the system is setup to spray, i.e. just a set spray or a progressive kit.

M29, Can you run higher boost levels safely or does methanol injection not change the effective boost levels? Reason I ask is it seems to be that running meth wins on 3 fronts. Cooler IAT's, Higher Octane rating, and higher boost levels(due to safety of the first two against knock and detonation). For the N54 in my car normal safe boost levels are around 13PSI. With meth you can safely run about 17psi depending on your timing.

Local guy's SS/TC rolled out pretty damn hard, but then again, nitrous does that. I think it was either a 75 or 100 shot. Here's him racing 2 pullied/ported Cobras. He's since sold the car though.

You are correct. The lower IATs and higher octane rating of methanol allows you to run more boost and timing. I'd be satisfied with a HPT meth tune on my car that runs ~25psi and maybe only tapers to around 20psi @ redline. With that boost and added timing, I think this **** would roll the **** out.

Meth is addictive. I really like my setup and it never sprays unless I'm over 80% throttle, pushing 12 or more pounds of boost, and there is no faults. I have some pretty nifty safety nannies with my meth kit that controls the spray or shuts it down and backs off boost if their is a no spray condition
