Because 5th gear creates a lot of heat and that heat will cause the pistons to swell and have piston to cylinder wall contact. The Cobra engines have very close piston to cylinder wall clearances....that's IF he has the head cooling mod. If no head cooling mod; it will develop drivers side head tick.
That's just a real quick summary.

Cobra putting it in 5th FTL.....I actually expected the Z to pull him ever so slightly through each gear but it didn't happen until the top of his 1:1 and the cobras OD.

Nice runs.
I have 2 buddies with cobras. One is CAI, catback, pullied, dyno tune and it traps 118-119mph in cool air (443 rwhp during dyno tune).
Other is bolt on (exhaust, ice box for blower,CAI, mail tune), pulley, ported blower, SA swap, minor weight reduction, 3.73 gears and it trapped 125mph in summer at Tulsa.
What do they have in common? They both run low 12s at the track (traction issues for both on drag radials)

They shouldn't be running drag radials anyway. Bias Ply tires are better for manual cars.
