And expected more? Quit being close minded. The car is a automotive marvel. They lose money for each one sold because of the R&D that goes into them.
They don't just loose a little money either lol. I think it's like 4-5 million each car.

MANNYMAN84..approx. 4200-4300 lbs i believe and there assembled unlike any other car out there...where are you going to go 260+ ????...where are are you going to do 205 in a ZR1 ???....it's all relevent i guess, but i get your meaning...no matter what the veyron's do, some one will always bring up the cost factor in owning one...

never the fact that it is the world's fastest stock car.

Ok just looked up the specs here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron

Engine
Standard: 8.0 L (488 cu in) W16 quad-turbocharged 1,001 PS (736 kW; 987 bhp)
Super Sport: 8.0 L (488 cu in) W16 quad-turbocharged 1,200 PS (883 kW; 1,184 bhp)

Now what i dont understand is how can a 400ci LSX or even a 383 LS1 with only 1 turbo make as much if not more HP than this.

You would think being 16 cylinders and 4 hairdryers and 488ci (8.0L) that it would more likely be around 2000HP???

Didn't thompson Automotive make 2048HP out of a 400ci LSX twin turbo.
Add to that we have seen countless numbers of 450+ ci LSX Naturally Aspirtated combo's make over 1000hp.

Personally if i had 4 turbos 16 cylinders and 488 cubes i would want to to be over 2000HP.

And there are quite a few 110-130CI 4 cylinder engines making 1000+whp...but that doesn't mean a turbo LSx should produce 3000-4,000whp, now does it?

I'm sure the bugatti uses all that displacement so it can keep the boost low and still make 1000hp, to avoid problems/excessive heat on extended WOT runs on 91 octane.

Also has really small turbos so lag is irrelevant. The power is instantly on and you'd never know its turbocharged.

Countless? You can't count to 1?

SAM Racing made 1000 at the crank with a 433ci LSX. A few other shops got close to that. But "countless", I don't think so.

look up active automotive he has 1 yellow GTO and 1 black GTO both running in the low 8's.

maybe not countless but there is certainly more and more poping up.
you also have nathan higgins who is now in the 7's

so if sams 433ci makes 1001HP shouldn't a 488ci N/A without 4 turbos still be kicking sams 433 considering it's nearly a full Liter less in capacity......just saying

Yeah sure this thing probably complies with euro 4 emmisions or whatever but still i'd like to think if i had 2 V8's bolted together and 4 turbos the thing would be making a bit more.

Basically i dont feel it's an engineering marvel cause the engine is huge and that power has been made with alot less.
You would expect it to be making alot more power than what it does for what type of engine it is.

There's no comparison to ANY engine you can build. None. Just saying.

Cool but just does nothing for me. I guess 1.7 mil you would have to expect this.

hence why some people twin turbo ferrari's and lambo's.

im not here to argue im just stating that 2 v8's bolted together more cubes than most v8's and not 1 not 2 but 4 turbos and it makes a lazy 1000hp. a 383 with 2 turbos makes that much and then some.

Have you ever thought that it's possible to up the boost and make more power?

I'm guessing that's what they did from the standard to the supersport. Here is that 383ci on an engine dyno.

Your really trying to compare apples to oranges. The car wasn't mant to be the holy of all cars in terms of power. It was meant to be a luxurious sports car that almost no one can match in terms of top speed and road racing. The car can make 1000AWHP for MINUTES on end, not some 6-10 second run then shut down. Also it makes it power with RELIABILITY, most race cars have to be rebuilt quite often because they are pushing the limits of the tune and motor, this car on the other hand is extremely detuned (low boost, pig rich a/f ratio, low timing). I bet with just a stupid tune and upped boost it has at least another 200awhp left on the table. Not to mention the car runs on regular pump gas, no meth or any injection.

Now if you really want to get all stupid ricer math they are plenty of single turbo 2.0L running 1000+AWHP so easily 1200-1300 crank and a few pushing even more. That means your twin turbo v8's should be doing 2000-2500RWHP.

I'm waiting to see one of these V8s you keep posting videos of make 1000hp on 91 octane, run at full boost for at least 2 minutes, and meet all noise, emissions, safety and OEM reliability targets in the process.

The Veyron is the automotive equivalent of the Concord. Period.
