Default SS vs GT

I went out hunting this evening and almost gave up till I came across a black SS(LS1) willing to play. The first two cars I encountered was an early 90s firebird with gauges everywhere and an old school SS.. I gave a rev to the firebird and he wouldn't bite. Being a younger kid, I assume it was all show and no go. Next car was a beautiful old school SS with a cowl hood. It definately had a cam and with the sound and tach on his dash, I thought it should be pretty interesting. I pulled up gave a rev, but he wouldn't bite either???

So the SS(LS1) and I hit a light. He has an intake, exhaust, chip, clutch, and nittos. He asked if I wanted to go from a roll at around 20mph which I agreed. I spun through first and second and finally got some good traction in third. By fourth I had a pretty solid lead and shut it down. He told me the previous owner had run 12.90s and I told him he most likely was a little quicker. Real cool guy and I'm happy someone would finally give me a run.

.
What's with all the people who spin through 3 gears lately??

I don't understand how you spin through 3 gears on a mid 12 second car, running 315 nittos.

Oh, and I love those LS1 owners who have "chipped" their cars ....

Nice kill joe.

I agree, I'd need a bit more torque to spin through 3rd, it was just 1st and 2nd. For my setup I make pretty low torque, 453? From looking at other stang setups I can't figure out why I'm so much lower than stock block stangs with dry kits. I should be more like 475

Good Kill, but put a BIGGER shot on it to make up for the lack of valves!

It's nice to have another stang on here.

It seems like Mustangs spin a little more than F-bodies. I see that at the track. A mustang that runs a 9 second 1/8 spins more than a f-body that is running a 8 second 1/8. Anyone else noticed that?

tires and roads also do play a factor in how much you spin. Joe is in the Laporte area of texas, and the roads are **** out there. I-10 by the time you get through beaumont and into louisiana, that **** blows as well.

mustangs i have seen spin more, but oh well......

The road we happened to race on is a very slick blacktop. On the street I don't see how I could ever get any decent traction with my torque. But then again, I don't want it to hook unless I want to replace my rearend.

It's called TORQUE!

The only reason a stang would spin more making the same power is the suspension setup in the rear. The stangs don't have a panhard rod or a torque arm, which helps the f-body plant harder..............or the guys in the stangs you've seen just suck at -->

I should have been a little more clear, sorry. The car that wouldn't race was a 60s model SS I believe. The SS I raced was an LS1. I haven't gotten a progressive controller but whenever I get around to putting my Nozzle kit on, I may consider getting one. I found an rpm switch that has a lockout of spraying in first gear that was pretty cheap. My goal is just to have a solid 11 second grocery getter.

I think you should be real close to high 11's with the 100 shot. If you want I'll run ya down Redbluff tomorrow from a roll, and that way we can tell how close you really are. Or if you're not working on Thurs we can run out to HRP for a few runs. ARe you working days or nights right now?
