Default Stock '98 A4 Z28 vs. '01 Cobra with mods

2001 Cobra convertible: MGW shifter, lowering springs, O/R X, Flowmaster cat-back, and 3.73 gears + exhaust leak. Driver mod.

1998 Z28 coupe: K&N air filter, otherwise bone stock.

Note: I wasn't really paying attention to speeds through any of the races, so these are just estimates.

Race 1: 45-?. Cobra honks, still jumps, and leaves me a good four or five cars back. However I did slow his pull dramatically. Cobra wins.

Race 2: 20-100. Cobra gets on it getting back onto the interstate and I stay glued to his bumper the whole way (I'm talking 10-15ft).

I know this isn't much guys, and probably doesn't even excite a lot of you, but me and my buddy agreed to some runs and these were the outcomes. Keep in mind his car is a convertible and has an exhaust leak, but I was still impressed to hang with him like I did.

No lol. He's a friend of mine. He obviously wasn't happy with the fact that I could hang with him pretty much stock (and with an automatic no less), but what can you do? Said his best time/trap is something like an 8.8 @ 85MPH or so.

Made a edit up there. Forgot to include his 3.73 gears.

8.8 @ 85? He definitely does not have the driver mod then.

What does "8.85" translate into 1/4 mile approximately?

K Thx! It definitely should go faster than that w/ the little mods he has.

By driver mod I mean he gets through all his gears cleanly and quickly, not that he's the next Evan Smith. And by quickly I don't mean it sounds almost like an automatic. So maybe I threw driver mod out there inappropriately, sorry.

And the way it is around here...

'03/04 Cobra's: 8.0-8.2's.
5.0 GT's: 8.1-8.3's.
Stock LS1's and 4V's: anywhere from 8.6-9.0.
2V PI GT's: 9.3-9.6.
2V NPI GT's: 9.8-10.5

It's not as unlikely as some of you think it is. Even though my best pass is only an 8.9, I've achieved close to 84MPH despite my 80.9MPH on my 8.9 pass. The best I can do for y'all is ask for a rematch and I'll record it.

Those times look pretty on par. Are you inferring that it is a slow track?

I'm indicating that's the times those cars run around here stock/lightly modded. I think it's a pretty fair outcome, but maybe he should have put a car or two between us? Maybe I beat the driver? Either way I wasn't really expecting the outcome to be much different.

And most of us know 4V's love a steep gear, which a 3.73 is not. Not to mention he doesn't have any real power adder either, it's basically just a Cobra with gears and a drop-top.

Wasn't trying to start **** at all.. My bone stock camaro ran 8.5 @ 85mph in the 1/8th with a **** driver (2.1 60ft banging off the rev limiter on multiple shifts). When I hear driver mod I expect Evan Smith results.

It's all good! And that's exactly why I retracted the driver mod statement. He's by no means a pro, but he's definitely quick and consistent through the gears!

And FWIW at this point, my car pulls consistent 2.0 sixty foots and has trapped close to 84MPH, so for whatever reason, it's just my ET's that are off.

Do you have 2.73 or 3.23 gears? Your mph and 60ft seem pretty good, I would expect 8.6 or better.

Vert and 3.73 gears aren't helping much. Good "kill" I'd say since if you both started clean you would win.

It's easier if I just tell you the Winston-Salem area lol. Hardly anybody has ever heard of where I actually live (it's a town of less than 1,500 people).

And I have 2.73 gears BTW. And I don't understand for the life of me why my quickest ET so far is also one of my slowest (if not slowest) traps.
