...like someone stated above...you buddy's car could have replaced the Cobra motor with a MACH motor at some point.

LOL..Not trying to be funny..but the whole shaker assembly and intake. I just could not see someone taking off the intake of a 99 Cobra and putting it on a MACH 1 motor. They could remove the shaker from the MACH motor but you would still see the mounting points on the manifold for the shaker. Other than that, I think it would be difficult since the mods were really to the redesign of the heads. Many of the parts from the 99 Cobra motor such as the Coil covers and cam covers were interchangelable...so I think it can be hidden nicely.
Don't know if anyone would go that far though..but you never know..

LOL @ everyone telling him what gear to put it in. With your mods you should be able to walk that car up top easily just leaving it in "D".
And OP, you have over 800 posts here and still don't know how to drive your car? What's wrong with you

My roommate has a bone stock 99 cobra with 5 speed. Only mod is gutted cats. I have tsp lts ls6 manifold tune lca lca relocation brackets sfc panhard and new tires. Every time we race i see nothing but tail lights from him. Wtf. I don't want to risk messing up my car by manually shifting so I put it in D. We do a 25 a 30. I just can't beat him. Is it because I floor it on the 3rd honk and it take a second to kick down and by then he's already taken off? I don't spin or anything. Any ideas? I don't see why his stock vs my mods beats me. Any idea?!?!?!
Before your race slow down to 20 or so, put it to the floor and wait for it to down shift. Once it has, drop it in 2nd. Once the race starts bump it back into D.
No matter how you race you take the chance of breaking something.

OP my friend bought a stock 99 cobra last weekend and after some research I did for him about his car here are some things I found out. In 99 the Cobra's had an issue with not making the power that Ford advertised it to make. Ford would replace or acid dip the intake manifold reflash the pcm and change out the cat back exhaust. Ford said that this would 100% provide the power that Ford had advertised. The green dot that has been mentioned was to notate that Ford had did the power recall to that motor. In some severe cases Ford would actually replace the motor but in most cases just the parts I mentioned before.

And was it making more or less than what ford said it was making?
I'm Gunna race him again today.
I'm not scared to race any mustangs except the termis and gt500s I haven't had a problem before with mustangs. Iv been with him when he's raced a trans am with similar mods and same outcome as our race but the ta was further behind. And he said he raced a SS same outcome. Idk wtf.

OP is probably just having a little fun here. lol

I may be wrong and I know this don't mean anything but wasn't car and driver and motortrend able to get mid 13s at 106 in a stock 99 cobra AFTER Ford did the power recall. That seems within the realm of a stock A4 f-body to me

I'm hoping I'm just doing something wrong and the second to kick down is where he's getting the jump and our races aren't long enough to reel him in since it's in town when we have had our races.

They are definitely losing times to a stock f-body from a dig. But two different cars with very similiar 1/4 times from a roll the advantage is in the M5 > auto everytime.
But I agree the tune needs looked at. With the longtubes the A/F may be a little off and the 02's could be lazy.
