Default Beat an RX8

Buddy and me in my car out to get some food run across an RX8. We catch a light. I momentarily had to taunt him We slowly took off and I pulled slightly ahead up to about 5 grand in first and let her roll back to about 4200 (like fishing, ya know ) when he got the *jump* (snicker snicker) on me. I nailed it and he was beside me *through the rest of 1st*. Too bad for him, I have a second gear that cranked about 4 cars on him. I ran 3rd for a moment for emphasis Looking in my rear view mirror I saw his lights drop after he saw me get off of it. No ricerflyby. He gets 10 points for that.

He gave a defeated and sheepish wave at the next light. (His girl was in the passenger seat). I thought about paying for counseling.

It appears as though you could throw another 80 hp into that car and it might be in LT1 territory. Considering it's predecessor, I expected much more from the car. Anyone else?

I think his girlfriend should have taken care of you and your buddy to make up for his vehicles inability to not suck.

Yeah... what is their torque? 150-180ish? for a car with what? 250-280hp? That is sad. But I really like the way those cars look for some reason. Nice kill and good to see that he was cool about the loss...

Actually they first said that the manual tranny made 247 hp and the auto tranny make about 207 hp, but the people buying the cars weren't getting those kinda of numbers. Seems that Mazda overrated the engine and they only make about 238 at the flywheel for the manual and the auto makes 197 at the flywheel. So in the real world the power at the wheels is about 202 for the manual and about 160 for the auto and that is pretty weak. Also torque is at 164 for the manual and 159 for the auto at the flywheel.

I like them ok. I just don't like the half door on them. It might be functional but I think it takes away from the appearence.

What's cool is that they have the tripple rotor, what sucks is that it is n/a. I heard somewhere that Mazda had planned to reintroduce the RX-7 before 2010. That way they could have the n/a 4 door (if you consider them full doors)RX-8, and the tripple rotor twin turbo 2 door RX-7.

The rx8 is a tripple rotor? I thought it was a double. *shrug* Oh well. Good kill. Ain't fishing fun?

For the record, as a previous Rx7 owner, I'm pretty dissapointed in the Rx8

I think it's handling advantage would be neutralized by the weak motor. I think a Z28 would take it at an SCCA or autox event.

It is NOT a 3 rotor. It is a 2 rotor renesis motor. Same thing as the RX7 but different port design oh and no turbos.

They are turds. But not ment to be a sports car, the were designed to be a touring car. That means great handling but not a ton of power. I have heard rumors about a "new" RX7 but I will believe it when I see it. The RX7 is one of my favorite cars and I would love to see it come back.

My bad, you're correct...I guess I was thinking of the 20b for some reason. A new RX-7 would be cool, but I guarantee if they do make them the production would be set back 8 years. I remember talk of the RX-8 coming out in 2000, 01, 02...

Talking

Just so you guys know, the Rx8 is not a replacement for the Rx7, merely another sheep in Mazda's flock.

The Rx8 kinda reminds me of the new Nissan Z, all they really need to be badass is some damn boost like their predecessors had, With boost people would be lining up to buy these damn cars. Why don't they just give the damn cars boost
