That's because you folks don't know how to drive in the snow lol. Having your engine weight over your driving wheels isn't a bad thing per se. Studded tires don't destroy roads either btw, that's snowmobiles destroying trails you're thinking of. Ever seen the studs on a street tire, they're not pavement tearing like you're implying. Not saying STI isn't amazing in the snow when equipped with decent rubber, but try one with studs . Just saying Cobalts can be nasty once modded up a touch and studded in the winter.

2940lb car with 300hp with all season 18s is as exciting as an fbody in the snow

Both of which ive never so much as spun or stalled in our lovely chicago weather.
If the jackasses here stayed out of the way, id be just fine :-)

Not impressed. Cobalt SS/TCs make more power than that and they have been around since 2008. Average SS/TC tune only car makes about 300whp and 330wtq.

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/dyno-...thread-194257/

Lots of cars approaching 330whp / 400wtq with tune and bolt-ons.

Here's a more current thread:
http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/dyno-...2012-a-272372/

Bolt-ons / Tune / E85 = 340+whp/over 400wtq.

I'm sure the first LNF tunes were not that impressive either. Sometimes it takes time to unlock all the potential of the ecu and learn what the platform responds to best. You are comparing an aftermarket for a 5 year old platform to a brand new one

I dont see many in that thread, getting 330lb/ft with tune only and on a smaller k03 on a month old platform. I love the cobalt too but I think you gotta give credit where credit is due, Ford did a great job with their first hot hatch state side.

From what I saw as well they are running more boost on those tunes, this was with a high of 22.5psi. Itll be interesting to see what happens when you start throwing hard parts at it.

A quick question, what can you safely make in an LNF car and not have **** break? Stock clutch, axles all that good to? Ill be purchasing some 4cyl turbo good on gas in the next year. How do they get on gas once you are making over 300/300

Stock clutch gets iffy above 400wtq. I can make mine slip at will in 4th and 5th if I go full throttle under 3000rpm. However it never slips when no-lift-shifting or launching on drag radials. Stock axles last to 450whp or more if you're not stupid (ie stop wheel hop by upgrading mounts or learn to let out if it hops). My car gets terrible economy on E85 17 city / 22 highway roughly, but does great on regular gas, about 26mpg city and about 34mpg highway.

That is pretty damn stout, sounds like whole driveline can handle up to 400ish. Be hard to beat 350/350ish and still get high 20/ low 30 mpg. Im poking around on the two forums following both cars. Hardest thing is finding a sedan cobalt close if I go that route that isnt ragged out. Ive only even seen one in my area.

Just got done doing a bunch of research on the ST. I already own a 2012 Focus Titanium for the wife's DD and it's a pretty nice car, just slow, but good gas mileage, great features, good ride and handling. It (the ST) has about the performance of the SRT-4, at about the same price (adjusted for inflation) in a much nicer package. I rented a Ford Edge with the 2.0 ecoboost in it for a week and a half last month. That car had more power than I thought it would. That is the same motor that is going to be in the Focus with 1000lbs less weight. Once the tuners get ahold of it, it should be a decent DD/beater car for those of us that want the 4 doors but don't want teh slow. If GM gets off its butt and gets the cruze SS going, it'll be pretty much the same type of thing. I'm still rockin the neon for a DD, but these type of cars are probably going to be my type for DD'ing for a while to come.

Hey I think you missed my point! Not sayin' that Cobalts are the be all and end all of snow cross lol. Just saying they can be a handful of win in the white stuff when setup correctly. Also I was correcting you on your statement that studs are illegal with the implication that it's because they tear up pavement. They do not. Prohibited doesn't always mean it's best, and prohibition doesn't always last long either . You'll get them on your roadways eventually if needed too. Biggest mistake one can make is assuming that because they haven't seen it, it aint.

Wow thats dismal numbers for the turbo cobalt as a whole, no wonder they arent making a perf cruze. Looks like a luxury cruze with more power makes sense lookin at that!
