Stock 02 Z28 vs Modded 2v

This is a fascinating point.
I read the contributor pointing to a valid issue, wherein the progression of technology produces a faster platform.
Thus where the individual buys a more recent example, they enjoy the benefits of the technologically improved, therefore, a faster vehicle.
I believe that this point provides a wonderful insight into the soul of the 'car buyer'.
With the car buyer, being a decidedly lower form of car enthusiast over that which is otherwise known as 'the car guy'.
I believe that this wonderfully expressed point of view explains why it is that someone would feel it reasonable to trample through thread after thread belittling the work of others, who have decided to take their car and modify it, through extensive effort and expense, pouring their heart and soul into a project; their WORK! Some would call it, their art; but we can surely agree that it is an extension of 'THEM', expressing in no uncertain terms, who they are.
If one simply buys a car, it's just a car… which is perhaps improved over their last, but which holds nothing more than the superficial means to brag about its performance, with which they had no involvement, no investment beyond the coin it took to acquire it. It's the same thing designed and built by others and, driven by THOUSANDS if not TENS of thousands of others. It offers no expression of them, beyond the facade it represents, distinct from the individual that builds their own ride and is unique to THEM.
Sociology refers to the 'Car-buyer' mindset as group-think… but let's not get into all of that, as…, well just leave that be.
Suffice it to say, that the issue is, I believe, the distinction between those who have "DONE IT" and those who want to ride along on the backs of those who've done it, falsely claiming some investment… by having purchased, that which was done FOR THEM.
Anyone disagree?

I only bought this silver car because I've known the owner for a LONG LONG time and this car has caught my eyes for years and he actually put together my 6.0 that was going into my Fox. I've done the build your car thing (LT1 T/A) and if there is enough paper work and things proving the build you'll always turn out ahead buying a car vs building one... And you can do your own little things to a car to "Make it yours" after you buy it

If you think the 2v will get you were you want to be then more power to you. Will it be a more difficult process? I believe so depending on your goals, but at the end of it all I believe after taking in all acounts of money spent, aftermarket parts, availability, and information the ls1 is the better option

Lol...... Hey man I've seen a few decent running 305's. I had one in a Monza that could run with a buddy's 390 mustang from a roll and beat up ona many of fox body with it. They would pull decent mpg's to.
I can't justify the hate on them.

2v's were, are, and always will be turds. They need like 10#s of boost to make 400rwhp LOL.
They are from the embarrassing time in the muscle car era that we'd all like to forget, just like the 305 SBC's .

meh. they're a good reliable engine. but there is absolutely no point in building one over a 350 when they're more money to build and you can't fit a decent size valve in the small bore. they were a par for the course engine at the time that was reliable but absolutely not a good performance platform. put a 283 crank in a 350 if you want a stout gm 5.0.

Anything a 305 can do, a junkyard pullout 350 can do better for cheaper. I don't see any reason at all to build one up unless you need to keep your vehicle numbers matching.
Not like it's an expensive or more difficult alternative that would need a new k-member, motor mounts, computer, harness, and accessories.
Hammer hit the nail on the head. (see what I did there?!?)

Don't sugar coat it, 305's are boat anchors...

The thing a 350 can't do that a 305 can.......mpg's.
But for you guys wanting a 350.......I'll take a 400. For performance anything that 350 can do a 400 will do better

I would never build one unless I was goin for mpg's.

Good reliable....and good mpg's.
They were much better in trucks than the 302.....What did you think of 302 trucks?

tootin rights it will. been there. a 400 needs a good head though. your typical vortec build doesn't even come close to utilizing the extra cubes and bigger bore of the 400. I built a vic jr'd 400 once and that thing was a lot of fun. right from idle to 6500+ rpm.
