I've owned both. Sold my 2001 C5Z in March and bought a 2014 5.0 with factory 3.73s. It's been difficult for me to tell which one is quicker. I would say off the line it's a drivers race till over 80mph. At that point the Vette's aerodynamics are so much better than the Mustang that it's simply a wind resistance issue at that point. Some say the 2001 is slower than the 2002-2004 model years. Yes it is but not a SOTP difference...only about a tenth of a second to 60 and two tenths in the quarter, maybe. I'm once again considering a C5Z because it's just such an impressive car. The new 5.0s are nice and I bought mine for the back seat so my girls could jump in together since I sold my SUV. Now I bought a extended cab Ranger so it will serve the same purpose. Just need to sell the 5.0 or trade it. Only looking for a 2004 as I want the last year of the C5Z.
Either way the ls6 is a nasty little motor and you had the lower hp one. So now if you get a 04 you will be looking at putting atleast 2 more cars on the 5br0s you raced.
