They built the Cobra to be a better Mustang. Not to revert to the same tired argument, but it is also painfully obvious that Ford didn't "have" to do anything. Now do I wish that they had just skipped the NPI GT altogether and moved every progression of the GT up a generation? Of course. But they chose to focus on other things and make the SOHC 4.6 less of a priority. That was one of many things that Ford did and GM didn't that allowed them to continue production when GM was unable to. And a race between a new Camaro/Mustang most certainly *could* go either way, but the Mustang is still clearly the faster of the two cars. No bias here, that's just how it is at the moment. Just how (even more clearly) the F-body twins spanked the Mustangs in the 90s.
