When I do this kind of project in the future I'm going to look for a 248a car. That's base V6 interior/options, GT drivetrain. Which saves ~100lbs. Full exhaust knocks off quite a bit as well, and I'd take the dogbone off the top of the differential like I did on my '98 (weighs about 15lbs). That right there will get it under 3,200lbs, and I haven't done anything specifically for weight savings. And my point (since you missed it) was that it would be a fun cheap car to enjoy driving around, and could surprise a few people on the street. Like a bolt-on LT1, except nobody expects it to be that fast. The LS1 F-body reference was used for speed comparison purposes, as that platform is pretty well known on this website.

That's what I'm thinking this car had done. Might have even been like I did my old '98 GT; PI cams/intake only. I'd still like to build an NPI GT w/ PI parts swapped on it. I think it'd be a fun car with I/H/E/4.10s. Would definitely surprise a few people, especially with some ported heads, a ported Bullitt intake, and some cams.

Yep. And Corey, I wouldn't do anything like that unless I was willing to spin it high enough to really use TFS heads. Which would go against the "budget build" criteria. Mill the stock heads, do a gasket match, and something like VT Stage 2 or Comp XE268/270s. Stock intake is also the most likely thing I would use.

Please do, I'm curious. It might just be a full PI engine swap, but I wouldn't do that as you wind up with 10-15hp less than an NPI engine with PI parts.
