So it's much cheaper to let it pop.. and have another $500 junkyard motor ready to pop in. Sounds like a plan.

Does not cost 10k to make 1500 whp in a 5.3. Do pistons and rods, heads, cam, sheet metal/single plane intake and you're done. Gap rings, clearance bearings, balance rotating assembly for extra comfort.

My forged 5.3 cost me about 7k but that includes labor. With a good set of heads and an intake I would have right at 10k in it.

Key words: LABOR!! We usually do all the stuff ourselves down here in Austin. KFC_or_BUST, has been a witness how i jack up the car using wood at times to removed transmissions, or do any mod needed.
As mentioned already, a stock 5.3 with all the cautions taken can hold well above 1000 rwhp, no problems. REDSLED, a extended cab silverado has done it for years. he does bends rods at around 1200 tho.

There is footage of the truck on youtube

I'm well aware of what a stock 5.3 can do. I was just throwing a number out there to give people a reference for what it cost to build one. My setup is a pistons, rods, crank L33 with ARP head studs and main studs. 243 heads and LS6 intake because I'm poor. Still about 4-5k just in parts alone.

You should of called Thompson Motorsports, they got all the shortblocks that you need, at a very competitive price. don't think 4k would of been the case with 5.3, but I could be wrong.

No... just cheaper. Plus having a couple acres of land to throw a garage up on to build the playtoy which was purchased from the sale of said "expensive" toy.
