there is a reason a powerglide is used for serious power.

Eh... maybe not. I had a "rollerized" version that made 7 passes with big slip the whole way before 2nd shredded itself. The car made 502whp, but was not peaky and also made 496tq. I only ran it to 7100rpm. By the time I got it home, it was on a flatbed. It did make the 1st 19 miles before 3rd went and I was on a tollway... pissed.
If he gets 9's with that power, that's definitely a light car.

They're quicker than you think. The 14 NA combo has already ran 9.79 at 3250lbs and 9.98 at 3500 lbs this year. They aren't showing everything they have either. Same engine as the 13, except GT heads instead of Boss.

Just found this thread. It's not a C-4 per se, other than the case and pump. The rest of it gets thrown away. It looks like a C-4, but they use the same basic parts in all their lightweight class race transmissions whether it be a C-4, 904, or TH350. 5 grand for the footbrake trans, a little more depending on which of the 49 different gear ratios are chosen. You can't go class racing with stuff like a PA or similar sells, just not at all the same thing.

I never really liked the PA stuff for racing because, well... it was a rebuilt swap at every race and taking an extra trans simply so you could give it back to them for another wasn't only seriously wasteful time wise, it got to the point where it seemed like a contest to see who could make the change quickest. I will say, one of my friends won many, many races in the low 9's/high 8's using PA's in a 3350 lb car. Again, swapping constantly. My own C4 wasn't a PA, but it wasn't even as good as theirs. My C6 left me with no worries, but a slightly altered ET. Worth the 10th or less to me.
That's a good ET and at that weight, I have to wonder, are you able to keep it basically in its peak the entire run? I get that it's doable, but it's fine tooooooning.

Just an update on this rtr... He was doing its thing and tearing some stuff up as usual. Ran vs an evo with a cop right behind him... arrested, impounded, retired. Sad it happened to this guy, and sucks that I'll never get to run him.

Stockers are a compromise. No transbrake, no more than 9" tire, can't do anything with the ports in the heads or with the intake/throttle body, no more cam lift than stock. Changes to many of those things could help, but they're off the table. I'm pretty confident if no rules needed to be adhered to and you went as light as you could, that an S197 NA Coyote combo could go bottom 9s.

Actually, around 1994 it seems, we really were looking at that power(usin' juice) for 9.3-25ish.. but I'm remembering 3000-3100 race weight. Then a guy here or there came up with some tricks, like using a 351W rather than 302.. that helped(a bunch).
Welp... darned strong, particularly for the drawbacks... That build reminds me of the early RENEGADE class. Since 2002, that really blew up from a small limitation to... hardcore.
