Stock 5.0 vs Y pipe only LS1 Camaro; dragging that ass!
#105
I dunno... I guess all can go with is my car and my experience with my car.
Which as everyone knows is a basically stock LTx, modded here and there with what I am told are mismatched parts, bad design, this and that mechanical attrocities... which further suffered from an old and severely roached chassis and just before that gave up the ghost, it was sucking air something fierce from a nasty intake leak, gushing fuel into a syrupy mixture.
And the last couple of nights out... that 1996 Z28 GUTTED every one of the numerous 5.0s that came up along side it. I am talking "No CONTEST HERE" And that car is FULL WEIGHT... with a tool box, cooler, two boxes of fluids, air-tank, hose and all of the other crap that sits in a work on progress pile.
Maybe Ford's just sending all the 5.0 slugs to SW Florida... I mean that's GOTTA be it... 'Cause I was told that my car sucked SO BAD that it needed to be driven off a cliff. Which, actually, turned out to be true... as it was only weeks away from the torque, literally tearing the chassis apart... LOL! Whatta Piece of crap, RIGHT?
Anywho... I can only tell you that in the reality in which I am driving, the 5.0 is hardly worthy of note, let alone a stand out.
As I noted earlier, I pulled one in my DEVILLE! Granted it wasn't a long race, just poppng from one light to the next, but Dude... my Deville is a 2003 LAND YACHT, which my Dad passed on to me just before he passed. It's a land yacht, brother, designed for cruising comfort. If my Z let a Deville pull it, I'd BURN IT!
And it is fair to say, that as she sits, my Z isn't pulling anything, except my crank... as it sits all jacked up and sad, having suffered chronic 'too beuacoup', for too long, as a result of the plentiful torque supplied through an engine design the General whipped up some time back in the 70s... probably while they were listening to the new Eagles cut, on their 8-track.

How am I bench racing? The guys Im arguing with right now, i have both gone faster then at the track with a bolt on car.... Tell me more?
They can deal with the fact that I have a bunch of friends that go faster then what they think is possible... so its not fact. And apparently neither can you.

The camaro was on slicks and skinnies as shown in the vid, got to account for rotational/unsprung mass. He did 13.0 @ 108 bone stock in dead heat of summer, 12.7 @ 113 with stock all seasons and skinnies and y pipe in much colder temps, and 12.5 @ 111 recently with the addition of drag radials.
