Default trans am vs 96 cobra

trans am-- 1975 455HO car with 1970 455 ho engine. 3.23 gears.

cobra--- 4:10's, aluminum flywheel, full O\R duals, new nitto's, CAI, tuned. shifting at 7500.

T\A popped out of gear at the top if 3rd so I just grabbed 4th. only it didn't pop out-- the trans **** the bed lol. all that's left is 4th.

enjoy!

How can valve springs from 1996 even handle 7500 rpms?

+1!!!!!
With a tune you would want to set that at a maximum of 7K just for safety. What tuner would even allow the motor to rev to 7500?

Anyway, I thought a basically stock 70 455ci T/A would be running low 14s unless there was some other mods done. If that was the case, that Cobra was not moving well at all.

you are a shitbag. that trans am is not.

seems to run good for its age.

I built a 68 trans am ram air 400 for a friend in Clarksville that ran better than the vettes and 5.0's of its day...ie 1990ish. his stripper girlfriend destroyed the car a short while after I returned it to him.

Those old 455s. Run mid 14s barely topping 100. Cobra have IMRC deletes?

That is the max rpm for the springs. But the oil pump gears are way past their limit at that rpm. Regardless, stock cams and intake that cobra has no business shifting that high. Stock cams and a SRI I would shift the 1-2 at 7100 all day. Past that you're slowing down.

He would have pulled more had he shifted lower.
