That sucks!

I think the only time that I've shift back down a gear while WOT, was when I was driving Guitar's car. Hahaha, I've never done it with a raggedy Ford.

Sorry to hear this happened KFC... I almost did a money shift at a half mile event once (1->2->1) but luckily didn't get it fully into 1st because it felt weird and I froze and didn't let the clutch out yet. So I got really lucky.

Scary though.
Your heart must have dropped when you realized what happened haha

I spun my old 4V in my Mark VIII to 7200 once in manual mode...sounded awesome, but I thought for sure the motor was fked.

That sucks.

one thing i've always wondered is why does going to that high of an rpm cause you to smack valves? is it due to the springs and valve-train not being able to control the valves at that speed and they get out of sync with the pistons and touch? or will they touch anyway if even in sync at those 8700+rpms?

Did you have any check engine lights or feel abnormal driving when you did this? I did the same exact thing racing a camaro today, go figure, however it seems to be normal and I have no engine light. Still is scaring the crap out of me though.

Nope, check engine light won't detect a spun rod bearing or stretched rod bolt.
