Escort gt's was pretty quick for the day. A friend had one and it went like 16.0 or 15.9. His mustang gt 2v went 16.1. So yea a tbi 305 would likely get beat by a escort gt

3rd gen had such dumb engine packages. To get the good engine you had to get the heavy car. Until the formula came out. But then you had to option it right.

In tge pontiacs yea. The camaro could be optioned different. There were z28s along with irocs being built. A tpi z28 would be a little lighter with smaller 15" wheels. There were also 15" and 16" iroc wheels depending on the option packages and years.

Not many knew about g92 cars ir 1le's back then. They were faster and had no issues with fox bodies.

Crazy thing is a well optioned iroc or z28 could have a tbi motor. Thats what gave them a bad rap.

It's pretty obvious from mikes results the tpi was more powerful than the 30poo when weight is not in the 30poo's advantage.

Well optioned car in early years could have a carbed 305 aka LG4 which was very slow even for its time.

302 car was cheaper....stripper LX was cheaper than a comparable 305 RS Camaro. 302 aftermarket was insane. ECU was better in the 89-93 cars as well I thought.

In 82 and 83 you could get the crossfire TBI motor in Z28 or Trans Am, but it is known as the crossfire injection. The anemic L03 305 TBI never made it into an IROC or Z28.

I have a soft spot for a clean 3rd Gen. My Dad had a few when I was growing up but the one I really remember was a 91 RS that he bought brand new. His story was that he couldn't afford the insurance on a Z28 at the time due to speeding tickets. The 91 RS has the Z28 wheels and handling package though. It was slow, but a fun a car.

Chevy 305 is one of the best motors made. Cheap, survive daily driver abuse, survive demolition derby and when they go to the junkyard they are just taking a break.

Same can be said about a 30poo. In general applications the 305 was the better engine.

No it don't. Putting a 350 in the same spot as a 305 with a 305 tune does not mean better. It means fucked up. Additionally if the weight was evened out it woulda been a dead heat with a ill running 350 in much worse da. Snake went like a 15.1......he was not setting the world on fire with that 30poo. Certainly not out of a 305 range. I went 15.0@93 with my 305 monza.

The best mod for a 305 was a 350.

The G92 cars were no joke, just took GM too damned long to come out with them. Stock for stock, at their best, the 305 made 230/300, and the 5.0L made 240/285. Much closer than ford guys would like to admit, but I wouldn't call the 305 more powerful.

Mods wise, the 305 is kinda stuck where the 4.6L 2V is, you can make power, but why bother when there are better engines to start with?
